Hello Rizwan 😊

You have been struggling with chronic dandruff (10 years), itchy scalp, rough hair, split ends, curly hair, and now postpartum hair/scalp issues after C-section. But dont worry we are here to help you out😊

✅ AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT

➡️SCALP CARE

👉Use medicated oils 2–3 times/week: Neelibhringadi Taila – improves scalp circulation, reduces dandruff, strengthens roots.

👉 Massage gently, keep for 1 hour, then wash with mild herbal shampoo (Shikakai / Hibiscus / Neem based).

👉Anti-dandruff home pack (once a week) Mix neem powder + hibiscus powder + aloe vera gel - apply on scalp for 20 min - wash.

👉Avoid frequent chemical shampoos, heat styling, or very hot water.

➡️ INTERNAL MEDICATION

1 Jeevamrutham lehya 1 tsp morning empty stomach follwed by warm water 2 Groo 1-0-1 after food 3 Thickshoot A 1-0-1 after food 4 Shatavari kalpa 1 tsp with warm milk at bed time – postpartum women benefit as it restores hormones & nourishes.

✅ Diet & Lifestyle

✅Include: Green leafy veggies, amla, sesame seeds, soaked almonds, curry leaves, pumpkin seeds. Coconut water 2–3 times/week.

❌Avoid: Excess tea/coffee, packaged food, curd at night, fried & oily food. Stay hydrated, and manage stress (as stress worsens dandruff & hair fall).

✅PANCHAKARMA THERAPIES (if accessible)

☑️Shiro Abhyanga (scalp oil massage) weekly.

☑️Takradhara (buttermilk therapy on scalp) for stubborn dandruff & itching.

☑️Nasya therapy (Anu taila drops in nose) – balances doshas & improves scalp health.

✅ Postpartum Hair Care Tips

👉Rest well, as lack of sleep aggravates Vata and increases hair fall. 👉Take iron-rich diet (dates, raisins, jaggery, sesame, beetroot). 👉Continue gentle scalp massage – it also relaxes your mind and improves sleep.

WISH YOU A GOOD HEALTH AND HAIR😊

hello rizwan nabi,

You are experiencing chronic dandruff, scalp itchiness, rough hair, split ends, and poor hair quality, which have worsened after childbirth (C-section). These symptoms indicate a combination of scalp dryness, mild fungal overgrowth, and nutritional depletion, common postpartum. Your curly hair is naturally more prone to dryness and frizz, which adds to the scalp irritation. Ayurveda views this as a Vata-Pitta imbalance in the scalp: Vata causing dryness and roughness, and Pitta causing inflammation and itchiness. Correcting this requires strengthening scalp tissues (Rakta-Dhatu), improving hair nutrition (Meda and Majja Dhatu), and removing Ama (toxins).

Medications : Kumkumadi Thailam (for scalp massage) – Apply 2–3 drops daily at night for 10–15 minutes, leave overnight, wash in the morning. Strengthens scalp, reduces dryness and splits. Bhringaraja Churna / Churna in oil – Mix with coconut or sesame oil, apply 2–3 times a week for nourishment and hair strengthening. Triphala Churna – 3g at night with warm water (for 7–10 days) – detoxifies body and reduces Ama that can affect hair. Ashwagandha Churna or Capsules – 1–2g at night with warm milk – supports hair growth and overall vitality.

Dietary Guidance: Include protein-rich foods (dal, eggs, milk, yogurt, nuts) for hair strength. Use healthy oils like sesame or coconut in cooking. Include green leafy vegetables and fruits for vitamins and antioxidants. Avoid excessive sugary, oily, and processed foods which can aggravate scalp Pitta.

Investigations (if required): CBC, Vitamin D, Iron, Zinc, B12 levels – deficiencies can worsen hair fall and dryness. Thyroid profile – postpartum thyroid imbalance can increase hair shedding.

Before treatment starts: Share bowel pattern, appetite, urination, and sleep quality to optimize medicines and dosing.

If you follow the medicines, scalp care, and diet consistently, you can expect gradual reduction in dandruff, less itchiness, stronger hair, and improved hair texture. Regular scalp massage is key for curly hair.

Warm regards, Dr. Karthika

Hello Rizwan, Thank you for sharing your condition. As you are facing Chronic dandruff (10 years) – persistent, itchy, scalp scaling.Itchiness & rough curly hair – hair feels dry, frizzy, and splitting. Postpartum stage (recent C-section) – increased hair fall, aggravated scalp issues. 👉 Likely Cause:

1.Kapha–Vāta aggravation with Rakta duṣṭi & Keshya doṣa. 2.Hormonal changes post-delivery + weakened digestion (Agni) + stress. 3.Use of chemical shampoos and dryness in scalp worsening the condition.

🔍 Recommended Investigations (To rule out internal deficiencies)

1. CBC, Hb% – to rule out anemia. 2. Thyroid profile (TSH, T3, T4). 3. Serum Vitamin D, B12, Ferritin. 4. Calcium levels (important after delivery). 5. If severe itching → rule out fungal infection (KOH test).

💊 Internal Medicine (8–12 weeks)

Phase 1 – Dandruff & Scalp Detox (first 4 weeks)

1. Gandhak Rasayan – 1 tab twice daily with lukewarm water. 2. Sarivadyāsava – 20 ml + equal water after lunch & dinner. 3. Triphala churna – 3 g with warm water at bedtime (for detox & bowel regulation).

Phase 2 – Hair Strengthening & Regrowth (next 4–8 weeks)

1. Bhringraj churna – 3 g with lukewarm water at bedtime. 2. Arogyavardhini vati – 1 tab twice daily (helps dandruff & scalp health). 3. Shatavari kalpa / powder – 5 g with warm milk at night (postpartum nourishment + hormonal balance).

🌿 External Care (Scalp & Hair)

1. Medicated Oils

Neelibhringadi taila or Bhringraj taila – massage scalp gently 2–3 times/week, leave for 30–45 min before bath.

If severe itching → mix Neem oil (10 ml) + Coconut oil (90 ml), apply once weekly. 2. Hair Wash

Use mild herbal shampoo (Aloe vera, Hibiscus, Shikakai-based).

Once weekly, rinse scalp with Triphala decoction (soak 1 tsp Triphala overnight, boil, cool, and wash scalp). 3. Anti-dandruff paste (weekly)

Neem leaf powder + Hibiscus powder + Curd → apply as scalp pack, wash after 30 min.

🥗 Diet & Lifestyle

Pathya (Recommended):

1. Green leafy veg, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, pumpkin. 2. Fruits: pomegranate, apple, papaya, amla. 3. Black sesame seeds (1 tsp daily). 4. Soaked raisins (5–10 daily). 5. Cow’s ghee (½ tsp daily) – nourishes scalp & balances Vāta. 6. Warm jeera–dhaniya–saunf water for digestion.

Apathya (Avoid):

1. Excess oily, fried, junk food. 2. Fermented foods, bakery items. 3. Excess tea/coffee. 4. Frequent chemical hair treatments (color, straightening, harsh shampoos).

🧘‍♀️ Yoga & Lifestyle

1. Pranayama: Anulom Vilom, Sheetali (10 min daily). 2. Asanas: Vajrasana, Balasana, Adho Mukha Svanasana (improves circulation to scalp). 3. Postpartum rest is essential – ensure adequate sleep & stress control. 4. Keep scalp clean, wash 2–3 times weekly, avoid scratching.

🌸 With Kind Regards

May your scalp heal gradually, dandruff reduce, and hair regain its natural strength, shine, and softness. With consistency, your curly hair will become manageable and healthier 🌿✨.

Addressing dandruff and scalp issues, particularly after childbirth, requires careful attention to your unique needs. Ayurveda identifies several root causes for your symptoms, including imbalances in the doshas, primarily Vata and Pitta. Postpartum changes can also intensify these imbalances, contributing to increased dandruff and scalp irritation.

For a more permanent solution, begin with a consistent routine of oiling your scalp. Use Brahmi oil or coconut oil infused with neem leaves twice a week. Gently massage the oil onto your scalp, allowing it to soak for at least 2 hours before washing. This practice can help soothe irritation, balance Pitta, and nourish your curls, making them more manageable.

Supplementing your diet with cooling and hydrating foods like cucumber, melons, and coconut water are beneficial. Ensure you’re consuming adequate amounts of omega-rich seeds like flaxseeds, which help nourish the scalp from within. Avoid excessively spicy or deep-fried foods that may aggravate Pitta, leading to more flaking and itchiness.

Consider preparing a homemade herbal rinse by boiling fenugreek seeds and hibiscus flowers in water. Cool and strain this concoction then use it as a final rinse after shampooing. This solution will help reduce dryness and enhance your hair’s texture.

Introduce Trikatu Churna (a blend of black pepper, long pepper, and ginger) in your routine to improve digestion and balance doshas. A half teaspoon with honey after meals can enhance your Agni (digestive fire), helping root out imbalances from within.

Regular scalp detoxification is crucial. Once a week, create a paste of amla powder and yogurt. Apply it to your scalp, leave it for 30 minutes, and rinse thoroughly. Such strategies, integrated with regular exercise and sufficient hydration, can naturally help you maintain improved hair and scalp health.

Dandruff and scalp issues like yours often relate to an imbalance in the body’s doshas, particularly the pitta and vata. The postpartum period, especially after a C-section, can increase vata dosha, leading to dryness and imbalance in your scalp’s natural oils. To address this, incorporating specific practices rooted in Siddha-Ayurvedic traditions can be quite beneficial.

First, consider a weekly application of medicated oils like Neelibringadi or coconut oil infused with fenugreek (methi) seeds. Warm the oil slightly and massage it gently into your scalp in circular motions. Leave it on for at least an hour before washing it off. This practice hydrates the scalp and helps balance vata.

In addressing the pitta imbalance, which can contribute to itchiness, sipping on a warm herbal tea made from coriander seeds (dhaniya) throughout the day can be calming and reduces inflammation. This can also be beneficial for overall postpartum recovery.

Your diet plays a crucial role. Include more cooling foods such as cucumbers, gourds, coconut water, and fresh greens. Limit spicy, sour, and overly salty foods as they can aggravate pitta. Also, increasing your fluid intake supports overall hydration.

For cleansing, use a gentle, natural shampoo. A blend containing amla and shikakai can be effective in cleansing without stripping natural oils, providing nourishment and combating dandruff.

Given your recent surgery and baby, ensure you are getting enough rest. Wear your hair in loose styles to reduce stress on curly hair, preventing splits and breakage.

If dandruff persists or worsens, consulting with a practitioner in-person could provide further personalized guidance. Balancing your body’s doshas through these practices can promote healthier scalp and hair over time.
