Losing beard and head hair can often be attributed to a combination of factors like stress, nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, or even underlying health conditions. In Ayurveda, this condition is primarily associated with an imbalance in the body’s doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. When these doshas are aggravated, the dhatus (tissues) can become weak, leading to hair fall.

First, let’s address diet. Ensure you’re consuming a balanced intake of proteins, healthy fats, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Foods such as almonds, walnuts, leafy greens, seeds (like flaxseeds and chia), and amla (Indian gooseberry) can support hair health. Amla is particularly beneficial for balancing Pitta and boosting overall vitality. You can take fresh amla juice or find it in powder or supplement form.

Improving your daily routine is another step. Adequate hydration and regular sleep patterns are crucial. Try to maintain a consistent sleep schedule, aiming for seven to eight hours per night. Stress management practices, such as yoga or meditation, can be effective in calming Vata and promoting healthy hair growth.

For topical treatments, consider applying coconut or bhringraj oil to your beard and scalp. Massage gently for 10-15 minutes, then leave it on for at least an hour before washing. Bhringraj is renowned for its benefits in strengthening hair and reducing hair loss.

Ayurvedic herbs like Ashwagandha and Brahmi may also support by relieving stress and improving skin and hair health. You might find these in powder form to be incorporated into your daily routine, with a doctor’s consultation if needed.

If your symptoms continue or worsen, it’s important to consult with a healthcare provider as certain conditions like alopecia or thyroid issues need targeted treatment. Balancing your routine and nutrition can be a great start, but sometimes a deeper investigation is essential.

Beard and hair loss can be concerning, and from an Ayurvedic perspective, it often points to imbalances in your body. In Siddha-Ayurveda, such issues might be linked to an aggravated Pitta or Vata dosha, which influences your hair health. Let’s look into practical steps you can take to address this.

Firstly, pay attention to your diet. Since hair health is tied to the Rasa and Rakta Dhatus (tissues), ensure your diet is rich in nutritious foods. Include items like amla (Indian gooseberry), sesame seeds, and ghee. These can help nourish your hair follicles and strengthen your hair. Try eating a handful of soaked almonds and walnuts in the morning, which provide essential fatty acids, supporting hair health.

Next, consider herbal remedies. Bhringraj oil and Brahmi oil are known to promote hair growth and strengthen the roots. Gently massage your beard and scalp with warm oil a few times a week. Leave it on for at least an hour before washing it off. This practice can promote better blood circulation in the scalp, assisting in hair growth.

Stress management also plays a vital role in hair health. Practices like yoga and pranayama can help calm the mind and balance dosha aggravations. Spend some time each day engaging in activities that reduce stress, such as meditation or simple breathing exercises.

Lastly, ensure your overall lifestyle supports your hair health. Get enough sleep of 7-8 hours, and avoid excessive use of chemical-laden hair products and hot water, as these can aggravate hair issues. If you notice rapid hair loss or if condition persists, it’s wise to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner or trichologist to rule out underlying health concerns.
