How to keep the menstruation cycle regular - #31404
I have been experiencing irregular periods for 7-8 years. Sometimes it's regular and sometimes i don't get them for 2-3 months. This greatly affects my wellbeing due to pre menstrual symptoms. I also have constipation issues since childhood. Rarely my blood flow is excessive and many times there are blood clots. My usual mentural days were 5-6 days but it's been 2 years I have moved to canada and ever since then I get for 6-7 days.

Irregular menstruation can indeed be disruptive, let’s explore a tailored Ayurvedic approach to stabilizing your cycle. The irregularity could be attributed to Vata dosha imbalance, particularly Apana Vata, responsible for downward movement and bodily rhythms. Residing in different environmental conditions may exacerbate these imbalances, as you noted moving to Canada.
First, tackle the dietary aspect: Eating warm, cooked meals can pacify Vata. Consider incorporating foods like sweet potatoes, carrots, and root vegetables which ground and stabilize Vata. Aim for a routine in your meals. Also, enjoying warm milk with a pinch of turmeric or ginger can support digestive fire (Agni). This helps address constipation – also a Vata sign – which can affect menstruation.
Use of triphala churna, a traditional Ayurvedic formula, may assist with both digestion and regularity. Taking 1 teaspoon with warm water at bedtime can aid constipation. Exercise, but not excessively! Walking, yoga, and light exercises promote circulation and balance energy. Excessive exercise worsens Vata.
Hydration is crucial. Ensure adequate water intake, preferably warm, to support bodily functions. Emotional stress exacerbates Vata imbalances; practice mindful breathing, meditation, or gentle activities that enhance relaxation. Establishing routine sleep patterns is vital. Sleeping and waking at consistent times helps stabilize bodily rhythms. Regarding the excessive blood flow and clots, Shatavari and Ashoka herb offer balance and strength to the reproductive system. Consult with an Ayurvedic professional for personalized dosages.
Lastly, given symptoms and changes since relocation, consider evaluation by a healthcare provider. Underlying conditions need medical insights too. While Ayurveda provides holistic support, professional medical assessment is prudent to ensure comprehensive care.
Irregular menstruation, combined with constipation and blood flow fluctuations, suggests an imbalance likely involving Vata dosha. In Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, Vata governs movement and flow in the body, including menstrual cycles, and can become aggravated due to dietary changes, lifestyle shifts, or stress—factors that might have intensified with your move to Canada.
To address this, try incorporating foods and routines to pacify Vata. Focus on regular, warm, and cooked meals, favoring grounding foods like cooked grains, stews, and root vegetables. Use warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, and cumin, which support digestive agni and help balance the dosha. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods as these can increase Vata. Include healthy fats such as ghee or sesame oil, to nourish the tissues and reduce dryness associated with constipation and irregular flow.
Daily routines are key. Establish a consistent eating and sleeping schedule to stabilize the body’s natural rhythms. Practicing regular yoga or gentle exercise can also improve circulation and promote bowel health. Castor oil or triphala powder, taken regularly in the evening, can support bowel health and help with constipation.
Watch your body’s responses, and if pain becomes severe or symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional. Your wellbeing is important, and it’s essential to ensure symptoms aren’t indicative of a more serious condition.
