Medilab HS Cal-N Tablets - #34903

Allison

I am really struggling with some health issues lately and have been trying out different remedies to find some relief. Doctor recommended Medilab HS Cal-N Tablets for my calcium deficiency, but I'm not sure if they're really working for me. I mean, my blood tests showed low calcium levels, and I’ve been feeling super fatigued and muscle cramps here and there. Been taking the Medilab HS Cal-N Tablets for about a month now, but still feel like nothings changing much. I thought maybe they’d help with my energy but honestly, I still feel kinda drained almost all the time. Sometimes I wonder if I’m even taking them the right way, like, am I eating enough food with it or what? I drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy, but maybe my diet isn't good enough?? Also, what about side effects? I read some reviews, and some people said they had stomach issues after starting Medilab HS Cal-N Tablets, but I haven’t felt that. Just little worried, you know? Would love to hear if anyone else has tried these or if you think I should give them more time to work. Like, is there a better way to take calcium? Any thoughts appreciated!

Doctors' responses

Given your experience with Medilab HS Cal-N Tablets and ongoing symptoms, it might be helpful to explore a more holistic approach to addressing your calcium deficiency. The supplements are important, but they need to be part of a balanced strategy. Let’s first consider the basics: calcium absorption can be enhanced by ensuring adequate vitamin D levels, as this vitamin plays a vital role in the body’s ability to absorb calcium. It’s wise to either get some sunshine daily or consider a vitamin D supplement if your levels might be low.

Your diet can have a major impact too. Aim to include calcium-rich foods such as almonds, leafy greens like spinach and kale, sardines, and sesame seeds—naturally high in calcium. Ayurveda emphasizes balance and moderation, so complement your supplements with these foods to help boost your calcium levels naturally.

Timing and method of consumption is another factor. Calcium supplements can be best absorbed when taken with food, especially those containing some fat, as this can help with absorption. Make sure to avoid high-fiber meals immediately after, as fiber can interfere with calcium absorption.

Regarding fatigue, it’s often multifactorial. In addition to calcium, ensure your iron levels are adequate, as deficiency can also cause fatigue. Regular warm oil massages, such as using sesame oil, can help soothe muscle cramps and enhance circulation, reducing fatigue. Practicing gentle yoga can also aid relaxation and energy flow throughout your body.

Side effects are possible with any supplement, although it seems you haven’t experienced them significantly. Should any arise, or if symptoms persist, consult with a healthcare provider. It’s important to monitor progress, with tests if necessary, to gauge how treatments are working. If the fatigue and cramps continue, an integrated Ayurvedic evaluation could be beneficial, involving analysis of dosha imbalance, suggesting bespoke solutions.

Calcium supplements like Medilab HS Cal-N Tablets can help increase low calcium levels, but it’s important to ensure that the body is absorbing them effectively. In Ayurveda, we consider the agni, or digestive fire, crucial for nutrient absorption. If agni is weak, the body may not properly process calcium, no matter how much you consume.

First, examine your eating habits. Calcium absorption improves when taken with meals containing some fat since it requires a lipid medium for better assimilation. You might want to take your supplements with a meal that includes healthy fats like ghee, avocados, or nuts. Consuming them alongside vitamin D-rich foods or getting some sunlight can also enhance absorption since vitamin D is crucial for calcium uptake.

Regarding side effects like stomach issues, these can occur when taking calcium on an empty stomach or too much at once. If you haven’t experienced this, continue being mindful of timing and dosage. Given your symptoms of fatigue and cramps, your underlying constitution or dosha balance might need addressing, particularly if there’s a vata imbalance leading to depletion of energy levels.

To improve your energy and address muscle cramps, consider incorporating some vata-pacifying practices. Warm, grounding foods, sufficient hydration, and regular, gentle exercise, like yoga, can help. Warm herbal teas, such as ginger or cumin tea, can also support agni. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult with a healthcare provider to re-evaluate whether these tablets are the best option for you.

Avoid calcium-blocking substances like caffeine, excess salt, or high-dose iron supplements around the time of taking the tablets. To capture a more comprehensive picture, a Siddha-Ayurvedic practitioner could assess your prakriti and guide you in adjusting your diet and lifestyle to suit your individual needs. Overall, ensure that any changes align with ongoing treatments or advice from your healthcare provider.
