does beetroot juice increase weight - #36875

Sofia

I am really curious about something. Lately, I've been drinking beetroot juice nearly every day because I heard it's super healthy and great for energy. But since I started this new habit, I’ve been feeling a bit heavier, you know? I didn’t really change much else in my diet or exercise routine, so now I’m starting to wonder, does beetroot juice increase weight? Like, is it just me or can this stuff actually contribute to gaining weight? My friends say it’s just good for detoxing, but I feel like I might be storing some extra calories from it. I've even looked at the labels, and I know beetroot juice is packed with nutrients, but calories can really add up, right? Sometimes, I have it with apple juice or mix it in smoothie, which probably adds more sugar, but I thought that was ok since it’s “natural”. Anyway, I’m kind of stressed about this whole thing. Should I cut back on it, or maybe even stop? What do you guys think? Anyone else experience this??? I’m just really confused if beetroot juice should be making me gain weight or if I’m just overthinking everything. Help!

Drinking beetroot juice daily, by itself, is unlikely to be the direct cause of noticeable weight gain. Beetroot juice is low in calories, approximately 43 calories per 100ml, and it’s rich in nutrients like folate and manganese. However, if you’re feeling heavier, it might be worth considering other factors involved in your routine. Mixing beetroot juice with apple juice or adding it to smoothies definitely increases the sugar and calorie content, possibly contributing to some weight gain. While natural sugars found in fruits are considered healthier than refined sugars, they do contribute calories.

In Ayurveda, be mindful of your specific body constitution, or prakriti. Beetroot is sweet and is cooling, which primarily affects Pitta dosha positively due to its alkalizing properties. This could affect your Agni or digestive fire, especially if consumed excessively or at the wrong time of the day—such as late evening. In balance, Pitta types benefit; however, Kaphas might experience some heaviness if consumption is not managed within acceptable limits because of their natural tendency towards increased Kapha qualities.

For practical actions, consider: 1) limiting your beetroot juice intake to moderate amounts and avoid extra mixes with high-calorie sources like sugar-laden juices. 2) Consume it in the morning when Agni is most active, supporting digestion. 3) Pair your juice with a small piece of ginger or pepper, which can enhance digestion and mitigate Kapha imbalances. 4) Be cautious of adding high-sugar items to your smoothies—perhaps substitute with a few leafy greens or cucumber for extra nutrients without excessive calories.

Ensure that you maintain a balanced diet and regular physical activity, as these are paramount components of managing weight. If you continue to experience unexplained weight gain, it could be wise to assess other dietary habits or lifestyle factors, and consult with healthcare professionals for a personalized review.

Beetroot juice on its own is not directly associated with significant weight gain. It’s low in calories, typically providing fewer than 100 calories per cup, which makes it unlike to cause weight gain unless consumed in large quantities or combined with other calorie-dense ingredients. However, you mentioned mixing it with apple juice or smoothies, which could add both calories and sugars. That might be a contributor to why you’re feeling heavier lately, especially if those additions aren’t compensated by changes elsewhere in your diet or activity level.

From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, beetroot is considered beneficial for balancing the Vata and Kapha doshas. It’s known for supporting healthy circulation and improving Agni – the digestive fire – which can foster efficient metabolism. Yet, moderation remains key. If your current routine with beetroot juice feels off-balance, evaluating proportions and frequency may offer insight without abandoning the practice entirely.

Consider simplifying the blend – trying beetroot juice solo, half a cup a day or every other day, might help reduce excess sugar intake. Monitor your body’s response and adjust as needed. We must remember that all bodies react differently, and awareness of how you feel is crucial.

Also, staying mindful of portion control and any contentment disconnects between what your body’s craving versus what’s habitually consumed can foster equilibrium. Adjusting the blend and frequency while keeping in touch with your body’s feedback will give you clearer insights and help balance your bodily energies.
