what are the reasons for delay in periods - #37512

Aaliyah

I am really worried because my periods have been consistently late for the past few months. At first, I thought it was just stress from work, but now it’s been almost 6 weeks since my last cycle. I read that there can be several reasons for delay in periods, but I'm kinda panicking. Just last week, I went to my doctor, and he suggested stress and diet changes might be affecting me. But I feel like it could be more than just that. I’ve been more tired lately, and I noticed some unexpected weight changes too, like I gained a few pounds but also feel bloated all the time. It feels like a rollercoaster! I don't have any major health issues that I know of, and I also ruled out pregnancy since I took a test. Really trying to figure out what are the reasons for delay in periods—could it be hormonal imbalance, or maybe something else? A frind said it could also be thyroid issues or something related to heavy workouts and low body fat, but I'm not sure. Honestly, I'm kinda freaking out!! Are there specific lifestyle changes I could make to normalize my cycle? If anyone has tips or similar experiences, please help!

Delayed periods can indeed be a bit of a puzzle, and there are several pathways we can explore based on Ayurvedi understanding. Stress, diet changes, and lifestyle are significant players in menstrual cycles, but since you’ve already considered these with your doctor’s help, let’s delve deeper into other potential causes and look at Ayurveda’s perspective.

In Ayurveda, Vata dosha imbalance is often associated with irregular periods. Vata, being the energy of movement, can affect the menstrual cycle when out of balance. This can be due to excessive stress, excessive traveling, lack of proper nutritional intake, or imbalances in one’s daily routine. Interestingly, your tiredness and bloated feeling are also indicative of Vata disturbance.

Hormonal imbalance, on the other hand, often points towards Kapha or Pitta disturbances, which could be exarcabated by weight changes or thyroid function issues, as your friend mentioned. An Ayurvedic practitioner would examine these symptoms through your body constitution and current imbalances.

To start addressing this, consider adopting a calming daily routine that grounds Vata. Regular meals, full of warm, cooked foods, ease digestion and aid in rebalancing the doshas. Foods such as cooked grains, root vegetables, and soothing herbal teas like ginger or fennel could be beneficial, along with ensuring adequate hydration, consider having a glass of warm water with a slice of lemon in the morning.

Yoga and meditation are also effective in managing stress and promoting a balanced menstrual cycle. Moderate exercise tailored to your comfort level like walking or gentle yoga can promote circulation and balance, while harsh workouts may exacerbate Vata imbalance.

Importantly, if you’re experiencing continued symptoms of fatigue and weight changes, it may be wise to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any severe conditions like thyroid disorders, and gain more insights from blood tests or other examinations. Always approach holistic self-care mindfully and ensure that any lifestyle amendments align with your overall health requirements.
