why hair fall happen - #37598

Victoria

I am dealing with this really frustrating issue with hair fall, and I don't even know why hair fall happen to me lately. It's like, one day I looked in the mirror, and there’s just so much on my collar or in the shower drain. It started a couple of months ago after I went through some intense stress at work, and I’ve tried everything—switching up my shampoo, adding some supplements like biotin and stuff. I also noticed my scalp seems super greasy even when I wash it, and sometimes it itches, which makes me think maybe it's a fungal thing? I really don’t know why hair fall happen this way though, and it’s making me kinda anxious about my appearance. My friends say it could be hormonal, but honestly, I have no idea what to believe anymore. Like, I eat pretty healthy most of the time, but recently I've skipped meals when work gets too crazy. Could that really affect things?? Also, I feel like I’m always running tired. Do any of you guys know why hair fall happen when there’s so much on my plate? I just want to get back to my thick hair days. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Hair fall can be a frustrating issue to tackle, especially when it’s accompanied by anxiety and confusion. In Ayurveda, hair health is closely linked to your overall balance of doshas, primarily Pitta dosha, which when aggravated, tends to cause inflammation. Stress, changes in diet, and lifestyle can disrupt this balance, leading to increased Pitta, often manifesting as hair fall. The greasy scalp and itching you described could be signs of an imbalance involving both Pitta and Kapha, which affects your scalp’s health. Stress is known to be a major contributing factor as it can increase cortisol levels, affecting hair cycle and mimicking a temporary Pitta imbalance.

To address these issues, consider focusing on Pitta-pacifying practices. Begin with dietary changes by incorporating cooling foods such as cucumbers, melons, coconut water, and maintain hydration with plenty of water. Avoid spicy, oily and heavy foods that may disrupt your digestion and disturb Pitta.

For your scalp health, you might benefit from a soothing hair treatment. Use coconut oil or almond oil for regular scalp massages, as these nourish the scalp and calm Pitta. Adding a few drops of lavender or rosemary essential oil can also promote hair health. Perform this massage at night so the oil can soak in and shampoo in the morning.

Stress management techniques are crucial. Incorporate yoga or meditation into your routine to help balance the nervous system and Pitta. Even short, regular practice sessions can make a difference.

In case the itching does not abate or worsens, consider a medicated shampoo with neem or tea tree oil, which have antifungal properties.

As your friends suggested, hormonal imbalances can also trigger hair loss, so monitoring your cycles or seeking medical advice could be necessary, if this doesn’t resolve the problem. Lastly, make sure to replenish your energy with balanced meals and adequate rest, because skipping meals only aggravates Vata dosha, leading to fatigue and further stress on your body.

If you notice no improvements or the fall is severe, it might be wise to consult a healthcare professional for an in-depth analysis.

Hair fall can be quite unsettling, especially when it seems to come out of nowhere. Based on what you’re describing, there are likely several interconnected factors at play related to both physical and lifestyle elements. In the Siddha-Ayurvedic tradition, we understand hair fall as often related to an imbalance in the doshas, primarily the pitta dosha. Stress, as you mentioned experiencing, tends to exacerbate pitta imbalance, leading to hair fall. Additionally, skipping meals can weaken the digestive fire or agni, neglecting essential nutrition for the sapta dhatus, particularly the rasa (nutritional fluid) and the rakta (blood tissue), which nourish the hair.

The oily, itchy scalp you’ve observed might suggest an underlying imbalance affecting the scalp’s natural oils or possibly a fungal element, as you suspect. Addressing this requires balancing your doshas and supporting healthy hair growth from within. Starting with your diet, prioritize regular meals with cooling and calming foods — think cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Incorporate spices like fennel and coriander, which help soothe pitta, promoting balance.

Topically, consider using Ayurvedic oils with cooling properties, like brahmi or amla oil, applied gently to your scalp. These can help nourish hair follicles directly and improve scalp conditions. Massage the oil before bedtime and rinse out in the morning if oiliness is an issue. Ensure your shampoo is gentle, free from harsh chemicals and sulfates.

As for the stress, since it’s a major trigger, establish a daily routine including yoga or meditation to stabilize the mind and body. Even a short session can make a difference. Also, focus on adequate sleep to support your body’s natural rhythms and healing processes.

Finally, your fatigue could be due to nutritional gaps from skipped meals. Check if there’s a need for other dietary supplements beyond biotin, particularly ones which support overall vitality and stamina like ashwagandha or shatavari.

If the situation seems to worsen or doesn’t improve, consulting with a healthcare professional might be essential to pinpoint any underlying conditions, especially if hormonal imbalances are suspected. Keep monitoring your body’s signals, and remember healing often requires time and consistent effort.
