does oiling help in hair growth - #37810

Lily

I am really struggling with my hair lately, and I’ve tried sooo many things. Like, my hair used to be thick and shiny, but now it feels so thin and lifeless. I read somewhere that does oiling help in hair growth, but I have no idea if it really works or just another beauty myth! I started oiling my hair with coconut and castor oil, hoping that would help, but honestly, I'm not seeing a ton of difference yet. It's been like 2 months, and I'm kinda worried. Sometimes I feel like maybe it's just my diet or stress or something? I mean, I do manage to eat veggies, but life gets busy ya know? I'm also stressed out with work, and I had this awful bout of dandruff before, which made me think that would affect my hair too, right? I’m curious if any of you know how exactly does oiling help in hair growth or if there are specific oils I should be using. Is there a best way to oil? Like how often should I do it? Would massaging help or just the oil sitting there? I'm really lost here and hoping for some down-to-earth advice! Thanks, everyone!

Oiling can indeed aid in hair growth, but like many remedies, it’s not a miraculous solution that works overnight. According to Ayurveda, oiling helps by nourishing the scalp and hair follicles, which can promote healthier, thicker growth over time. Coconut and castor oil are great choices, but results can vary based on individual conditions like your dosha imbalance or lifestyle factors.

To support your hair health, consistency is key. Applying oil once or twice a week is typically sufficient. Warm a small amount of oil and gently massage it into your scalp—this increases blood flow and helps the oil penetrate deeper. Leave it on for a few hours or overnight if possible, then wash it out with a gentle shampoo. Regular scalp massage with oil can boost circulation and encourage hair growth, so it’s not just about the oil sitting on your scalp.

It’s understandable that stress and diet could be impacting your hair health. In Ayurveda, stress can lead to an aggravated Vata dosha, which might contribute to hair issues like thinning. Practicing stress-reduction techniques such as yoga or meditation can be beneficial. Including a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, and vitamins is also crucial. Consider adding foods that support hair health, like almonds, walnuts, spinach, and lentils.

If dandruff was a concern before, ensuring you maintain a clean and healthy scalp is important. Neem oil can be an excellent addition for its antifungal properties. Ensure you thoroughly wash your hair post-oiling to prevent any residue buildup, which can exacerbate dandruff.

While you have begun to oil for two months, keep in mind that natural remedies require time and patience. If hair loss continues or worsens, consulting an Ayurvedic dermatologist might provide insight into any underlying issues that need a more personalized approach.
