does carrot and beetroot juice increase weight - #37853

Sebastian

I am kinda worried about my weight lately. Always been on the healthy side, but after starting a new routine, I feel like I’m gaining a bit. I’ve been drinking a lot of carrot and beetroot juice every morning because I thought it was a good choice for cleansing and getting nutrients, you know? Anyway, I read somewhere that does carrot and beetroot juice increase weight! And I’m like, wait, what? Im not sure how that could be, they’re veggies, right? But I’ve been combining them with a bit of pomegranate and even some ginger sometimes. However, I've noticed my clothes feeling a little tighter this past month. Like, am I on the right track, or should I ditch the juice? I don’t wanna give up on my health goals, but if this is leading to weight gain, that’s not what I want. Is it the natural sugars in carrot and beetroot juice making me gain weight? I guess I just want clarity on this whole situation. Does carrot and beetroot juice increase weight, or am I just overthinking? Thanks for any insight!

Carrot and beetroot juice, when consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet, is unlikely to be a main cause for weight gain. Both carrots and beetroots are nutrient-dense and offer considerable health benefits, yet they contain natural sugars which, if consumed excessively, can add up to your calorie intake and potentially contribute to weight gain.

Carrots and beetroots are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, promoting overall vitality and health. In Ayurveda, both are known to balance the Vata and Pitta doshas. They can be particularly nourishing for the Rakta (blood) and Mamsa (muscular) dhatus, benefitting skin health and energy levels. However, any juice contains more sugar per glass than if you ate those vegetables whole. This is due to the removal of fiber during juicing, which otherwise helps to regulate your digestive pace and manage sugar absorption into the bloodstream.

Including the juice in your morning routine is generally healthy, but it’s crucial to keep track of portion sizes. A suitable serving size would be around 150-200ml and it should not be your sole breakfast item. Rather, accompany it with some protein or healthy fats to balance out the meal and control blood sugar levels.

Pomegranate and ginger, as you mentioned, add additional nutrients and antioxidants. They, too, possess beneficial properties for the body and are a good pairing with the base of carrot and beetroot; it’s a healthy punch overall. But again, be mindful of how much and how often you’re drinking it.

It’s essential to look at your entire daily diet and physical activity. If juices are causing excess calorie intake without sufficient physical activity, adjustments may be needed. Consider discussing your concerns with a nutrition expert who can evaluate your entire dietary pattern and suggest personalized modifications. Don’t overlook the potency and effectiveness of regular physical activity in managing weight and sustaining health.

Carrot and beetroot juice on its own is unlikely to directly cause weight gain in a standard balanced diet. However, it’s essential to consider both the quantity and frequency of consumption. Carrots and beetroots do contain natural sugars, which—if consumed in excess—could contribute to an increase in calorie intake. This might partially explain the subtle weight increase you’re experiencing, especially if this juice has become a significant part of your daily routine.

From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, it’s essential to consider your dosha (body constitution) balance. If you’re primarily of Kapha constitution, which tends to hold onto weight, be cautious with high sugar content foods, even natural ones. Balancing such juices with other dietary adjustments can assist in managing optimal weight. Consider reducing the portion size or frequency of your juice intake, or opting to have them in diluted form to decrease caloric impact.

Additionally, the metabolic fire, or Agni, plays a crucial role in digestion and metabolism. If you suspect your gastric fire is sluggish, try incorporating spices like ginger, cinnamon, or pepper in moderation to boost it. You are already adding ginger, which can help balance this aspect. However, always be mindful not to overheat the body, especially in Pitta-dominated individuals, by monitoring spicy additions.

Incorporating this into a holistic approach with regular physical activity and conscious eating practices will tend to better align with your health goals. This helps in maintaining a balanced state without forsaking the benefits of the nutrient-rich juices you’re drawn to.

Remember, any sudden or sustained changes in weight should be evaluated with a health professional, ideally one who understands both Ayurveda and contemporary medical practices, to ensure a harmonious balance between your dietary habits and your body’s needs.
