For the symptoms you’re describing, it’s crucial to address the root cause. Ear problems, particularly when linked to balance and sounds like buzzing, can be quite distressing. These symptoms often suggest involvement of the Vata dosha, especially since Vata governs movement and sensory functions, including balance.
Firstly, addressing the persistent ear heaviness is essential. A simple Ayurvedic remedy is to use warm sesame oil or lukewarm garlic oil for karnapurana (oil administration in the ear). Warm the oil slightly – it should only be lukewarm, not hot – and add a few drops in the affected ear while lying on your side. Allow the oil to sit for about 5–10 minutes before turning your head to let it drain. Do this once daily for a week. This process helps in dislodging any trapped water and soothes the ear canal.
For balance issues, consider practicing nasya (nasal oil administration) with Anu Taila oil. Apply 2-3 drops of the oil in each nostril in the morning. This can help clear the passages between the ear, nose, and throat, improving your balance and relieving head heaviness.
To manage the constant head heaviness, adopting a diet that balances Vata can be beneficial. Favor warm, nourishing foods like soups and stews, and avoid cold or raw foods. Ginger tea can be helpful, as it aids digestion and clears congestion.
Buzzing sound, often referred to as tinnitus, can sometimes relate to heightened Vata. Practicing regular relaxation techniques such as yoga and deep breathing may help. Additionally, considered shirodhara, a therapy where warm oil poured on the forehead, although this requires visiting an Ayurvedic center.
However, since balance issues and head heaviness may indicate a more severe underlying condition, such as inner ear infection or other medical concerns it’s important to consult an ENT specialist for a thorough evaluation. Immediate medical attention should be seeked if symptoms persist or worsen, for a safe and comprehensive understanding of your condition.
