After undergoing fibroid surgery and entering a peri-menopausal phase, experiencing symptoms like heavy bleeding and bloating can be concerning. These symptoms may be rooted in imbalances within the body’s doshas, primarily Vata and possibly Pitta, as well as digestive issues linked to agni (digestive fire).

Firstly, to address the heavy bleeding, an Ayurvedic approach would suggest focusing on pacifying Pitta, which is often linked with heat and excess bleeding. Consuming cooling herbs and foods may be beneficial. Amalaki (Indian gooseberry) possesses astringent properties and is known for its ability to balance Pitta and support the body’s systems. You might consider consuming amalaki powder or juice daily, following the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Bloating and heaviness in the legs could be a result of Vata imbalance along with water retention. Incorporating warming spices like cumin, coriander, and fennel into your meals can help in enhancing digestion and reducing bloating. Ginger tea, consumed two to three times daily, can also support digestion and reduce gas. Soaking feet in warm water with a pinch of Epsom salt for about 15-20 minutes before bedtime can alleviate leg heaviness.

Adjusting diet to something light and easily digestible can further aid in balancing Vata. Including more cooked vegetables, soups, and broths over raw foods can be beneficial, along with maintaining regular meal times. Avoid processed and excessively spicy or acidic foods that may aggravate Pitta.

Lastly, moderate exercise such as walking or yoga can improve circulation, helping to address leg heaviness. Breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom may assist in calming the mind and supporting overall hormonal balance during this period. Regular check-ups with a healthcare professional are essential, especially if heavy bleeding persists, to rule out any underlying conditions requiring further attention.
