will sugarcane juice increase weight - #39832
I am kinda worried about my diet lately. Last month, I started drinking sugarcane juice regularly. I read somewhere that it’s really good for energy and hydration, but I can’t help but wonder, will sugarcane juice increase weight? I’ve always struggled with maintaining my weight and I can feel my jeans getting tighter! 😩 I used to be super active, going to the gym like 4 times a week, but ever since summer started, I got lazy and just kinda chill at home, plus I switched from water to sugarcane juice as my go-to drink. It tastes awesome, honestly, but now I’m freaking out about those extra calories. Like, it’s not just sugar, right? I never really paid attention to how much I was drinking until my friend told me to be careful with it. Also, I've noticed sometimes my energy dips after having it, which is weird since it should give me a boost?? Like, will sugarcane juice increase weight if I keep drinking it everyday? Should I cut back or just go back to plain ol’ water? Any advice would be amazing!

Drinking sugarcane juice can indeed contribute to weight gain if consumed in large quantities, primarily because it’s high in natural sugars and calories. While sugarcane juice provides quick energy and electrolytes, beneficial for hydration and quick recovery, the natural sugars can quickly add up if you drink it regularly like you’re describing. That yummy taste comes with what’s called concentrated calories.
In Ayurveda, the sweetness in sugarcane juice falls under Madhura rasa, which can have a nourishing and body-building effect. If your lifestyle or metabolism isn’t actively managing those calories, it can lead to weight gain. It sounds like you’ve shifted from a more active lifestyle to a more sedentary one, which might be contributing to weight fluctuations too. It’s important not to solely blame the juice without considering your full routine and diet changes.
Your energy dips after drinking it could be related to a rapid spike in blood sugar followed by a subsequent drop, a common occurrence with sugary drinks. To balance this out, consider pairing sugarcane juice with some protein or healthy fats, like a handful of nuts, to help stabilize blood sugar levels.
Switching back to water as your primary drink could be beneficial, maybe reserving sugarcane juice for occasional refreshment rather than a daily staple. Water is your best companion for hydration without the extra calories. Meanwhile, you could focus on gradually reintroducing physical activity to your schedule, even starting with light exercises or walks, to help manage weight.
Incorporating herbal teas like ginger or mint tea could also be a healthier alternative when you’re looking for something with flavor but without the extra calories. Moderation is key. If you enjoy the benefits of sugarcane juice, try limiting it to a couple of times a week, rather than daily, to support your weight maintenance goals.
