Doctors' responses
Addressing PCOS and related symptoms such as irregular periods and low progesterone involves a holistic approach in Ayurveda. Your primary concerns point towards an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas, which are crucial in regulating the reproductive system.
Firstly, incorporating diet and lifestyle changes can have a significant impact. Favor warm, easy to digest foods, rich in fiber and nutrients. Avoid cold, oily, and fried foods which may aggravate your condition. Include spices like cumin and turmeric in your meals; they aid digestion and reduce Kapha accumulation.
Ashwagandha or Shatavari can be beneficial herbs for your condition; they help balance hormones and support reproductive health. Try taking Shatavari powder, about 1 teaspoon twice a day with warm milk. This aids in nourishing the reproductive tissues (dhatus) and helps in stabilizing hormones.
For your weight, engaging in light to moderate excercise like yoga or brisk walking can be useful. This not only helps maintain a healthy weight but also balances your doshas. Practicing stress-relieving techniques, such as meditation and deep breathing, can also support hormonal balance.
You mentioned long menstrual cycles, which may require more immediate attention. If the condition persists, consulting with an ayurvedic physician to tailor the treatment plan is advisable. They may recommend specific Panchakarma therapies like Virechana (therapeutic purgation) to detoxify and balance your body.
In terms of continued medication, M2 Tone can support regulating your menstrual cycles, but keep in mind it takes time for such treatments to show results. Ensure regular follow-up with your healthcare provider to monitor changes and adapt your treatment as needed.
Always cross-check any herbs or medications with current treatments you’re using to avoid potential interactions. Regular follow-up ensures safe and optimal integration of Ayurveda into your lifestyle and medical plan.
