what is the best time to take shilajit - #40187

Sebastian

I am struggling with where to fit shilajit into my daily routine. I've heard lots of good things about it, but I'm still a bit confused on what is the best time to take shilajit for maximum benefits? Like, do I take it in the morning or before bed? I tried taking it lately in the morning with my coffee, but I felt a bit jittery afterwards and thought maybe I should go the other way? I mean, sometimes I read people say it can help with energy all day long, and then other times folks say it’s better for relaxing at night. I’ve been feeling really tired and run down, work is super stressful, and I just wanna boost my stamina naturally. Oh, and the flavour is...really something. Hard to get used to. So, should I still try mixing it with honey or something? Also, if there’s a specific dose or way to combine it with other things, that would help! Honestly, just want to see how to use shilajit effectively. Any insights on what is the best time to take shilajit? Thanks in advance!

Doctors' responses

The best time to take shilajit typically depends on what benefits you want to prioritze. If you’re aiming to boost energy and stamina, morning time is generally advisable. Taking shilajit in the morning can positively influence your vitality and energy throughout the day. However, you’ve noticed feeling jittery, likely due to combining it with coffee. Coffee is a stimulating beverage, and when combined with shilajit—another potent substance—it can overpower your system. Therefore, try taking shilajit with warm water or milk instead. Both milk and warm water are ideal as they help balance the earthiness of shilajit and improve its absorption.

If you prefer a more relaxing effect, evenings might be suitable, particularly if you experience restlessness or poor sleep. Shilajit doesn’t inherently cause sleepiness, but its adaptogenic properties can help in reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm. Again, mixing it with warm milk with a pinch of turmeric might be beneficial before bed.

Concerning the taste, indeed, shilajit possesses a distinct flavor. Mixing it with substances like honey, not only enhances taste but also synergizes its effects by promoting nutrient absorption. You can create a habit of mixing a small dose of shilajit—ideally, the size of a rice grain comparable to the recommended amount, with a teaspoon of honey or warm milk whenever the earthy taste is bothersome.

Consistency is key, so start with a smaller dosage and observe how your body responds. Gradually adjusting as your system acclimatizes. With stress and fatigue being prevalent concerns, supplementing shilajit with stress-managing practices like yoga or meditation can also offer synergistic benefits. Remember, if you have any underlying health conditions or are on medication, it always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting new supplements.

To figure out the best time to take shilajit, consider both your individual needs and the nature of shilajit itself. Given your goals for enhancing stamina and managing stress, shilajit is generally more beneficial when taken in the morning. This aligns with its energizing properties and ability to enhance vitality throughout the day. However, since you experienced jitteriness, it might not pair well with coffee for you personally.

Instead, try taking shilajit first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with warm water or milk–this can provide a smooth energy boost without the jittery effect coffee might induce. If used in its pure form, the taste can indeed be quite strong and unique, so mixing it with honey is a practical way to improve palatability while also harnessing the nourishing properties of honey. Honey is tridoshic, so it generally harmonizes well for all body types.

As for dosage, starting small, about 300-500 mg per day, is advisable to observe how your system reacts while gradually increasing to up to 1 gram if required. Shilajit works to balance the doshas and rejuvenate the body’s dhatus, and its impact can vary with each individual’s constitution. So if morning energy is your primary goal, maintaining consistency with morning dosages is key.

Regarding combining it with other substances, ensure no opposite effects, especially with stimulants like caffeine. Given your stress levels, introducing calming practices and taking adaptogenic herbs that complement shilajit might assist in overall stress relief. If you continue feeling unusually fatiged, consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner to evaluate deeper imbalances might be prudent.
