how to stop constipation in early pregnancy - #42836

Victoria

I am feeling soooo uncomfortable lately! I found out I’m pregnant about a month ago, and since then, I've been dealing with this awful constipation. Like, it’s almost embarrassing to talk about, but seriously, how to stop constipation in early pregnancy?? I’ve tried eating more fiber, like fruits and veggies, and drinking tons of water, but it seems like nothing’s working. I remember last week, I actually went two days without a single movement, and it felt like my stomach was going to explode. I’m freaking out because I’ve read that this is kinda common in pregnancy, but I just don’t know how to handle it!!! Every time I eat something new, I’m scared it’s gonna make me feel worse. I’ve also been feeling nauseous, and the thought of certain foods makes it worse. I guess it doesn’t help that I’m really stressed about everything, and that probably isn’t helping my digestion either. Do any of you have tips on how to stop constipation in early pregnancy? Are there any safe Ayurvedic remedies or advice you could share? I really don’t want to take over-the-counter stuff, you know? Any help would be super appreciated! Thanks, guys.

Constipation in early pregnancy is quite common due to hormonal shifts and increased progesterone levels. Don’t worry, there are several safe Ayurvedic strategies to help ease your discomfort. First, focus on your agni, or digestive fire, as it’s crucial for proper digestion and elimination. Start each day with a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of lemon juice, which can gently stimulate bowel movements. A simple yet effective routine.

Consider including Triphala, a classical Ayurvedic remedy known for its gentle laxative and tonic properties. Take a quarter teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water at bedtime. However, it’s wise to consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement during pregnancy.

Assess your diet for doshic imbalance. Emphasize warm, cooked foods over raw ones as they are easier to digest. Khichdi, a blend of rice and lentils, is a nourishing option. Add a teaspoon of ghee to your meals, as it lubricates intestines and aids smooth passage of stools. Be cautious with heavy or very spicy foods, as they can disrupt digestion.

Alright, dehydration can exacerbate constipation, so maintain hydration with room temperature or warm fluids. Avoid icy cold drinks as they can dampen digestive fire. Alongside, you might try prune juice, a time-honed remedy, in moderation.

Stress, as you’ve guessed, also contributes constipation. Include daily relaxation practices like pranayama or gentle yoga, which help in reducing stress and promoting digestion. A few minutes of deep breathing can center your mind and improve digestive function.

Seek help from a local Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized advice, especially given you’re pregnant. Avoid over-the-counter laxatives without professional guidance. Remember, balance is key in pregnancy; listen to your body and make adjustments that feel right for you.
