how to maintain periods on time - #43032

Isaac

I am just kinda stressed out right now and not sure what to do. Lately, my periods have been super irregular, and it’s really getting on my nerves. Like, last month, it was over a week late, and this month I thought everything was back to normal, but now I’m worried it might be late again! I've tried tracking everything, but it still feels all over the place. I have a pretty balanced diet and I work out regularly, but I think maybe I’m just overthinking this whole thing. Sometimes I feel like there's just too much pressure with school and life, you know? I wanna know how to maintain periods on time because I read that stress can mess things up, but I don’t feel like I’m doing anything crazy stressful? I mean, is there something I should be doing? Are there herbs or foods that can help? I heard about some Ayurvedic remedies but idk which ones actually work for people. Do I need to try meditation too? Just any tips on how to maintain periods on time would be great. Maybe I am missing something big or simple? Thanks!

Stress can indeed affect menstrual cycles, and your concern is completely understandable given the disruptions in your life rhythms. In Ayurveda, irregular periods can often be attributed to an imbalance in the Vata dosha, affecting the natural menstrual cycle. First thing, it might be beneficial for you to integrate daily practices that promote a sense of stability and calmness.

Start by implementing a consistent daily routine. Try waking up and going to bed at the same time each day, even on weekends. Stability in schedule is key to calming Vata. The same pertains to your diet - eat your meals at regular times, preferably warm, well-cooked, and easy-to-digest foods to balance Vata. Consider including whole grains, like brown rice and cooked vegetables like squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Adding a bit of ginger to your diet can stimulate Agni, promoting better digestion and assimilation of nutrients which is crucial to regulating cycles.

Stress, as you’ve suspected, does play a significant role. Incorporating meditation sounds more beneficial here; practicing for 10-15 minutes in morning and evening can be calming. Herbs that help in balancing hormones such as Ashwagandha and Shatavari might be highly beneficial, as they are known for their adaptogenic properties, helping to reduce stress and regulate cycles. A caution here though - consult a qualified Ayurvedic doctor before implementing these herbs, especially if you take other medications.

Regular yoga practice can be calming and grounding, with particular attention to poses that open the pelvis and stimulate blood flow can help. Poses like Viparita Karani (legs up the wall pose) and Baddha Konasana (bound angle pose) aid in promoting reproductive health.

Finally but critically, ensure you are well hydrated, and try to limit caffeine and alcohol intake, as they can further aggravate Vata and worsen stress. Keeping aware of physical and emotional stressors and adopting these daily routines could potentially bring about balance. If symptoms persist, it would be wise to seek medical consultation for a comprehensive evaluation.
