how to make kadha for cough and cold - #44527

Dylan

I am really struggling with a stubborn cough and cold that just won't go away! I tried all sorts of over-the-counter meds, but nothing seems to be working, and honestly, I'm tired of popping pills that don't seem to do anything. A friend mentioned that I should try how to make kadha for cough and cold, but I'm not really sure where to start. Last week, I felt like I was getting sick, and then boom! Fever, chills, the whole works. The worst part is the coughing fits that keep me up at night. I've heard that kadha is this spicy herbal drink that can help soothe the throat and relieve symptoms. So, like I said, how to make kadha for cough and cold? Are there specific ingredients I should use? I think I heard ginger, turmeric, and maybe some black pepper? I've been drinking warm water and trying to stay hydrated, but can adding this kadha really make a difference? My family thinks I’m being too dramatic—just a cold, they say—but when you experience this grossness every day, it feels kinda miserable. Any tips would be super helpful! Thanks!

Indeed, a well-prepared kadha can be an effective remedy for alleviating the discomforts of a cough and cold. The beauty of kadha lies in its simplicity and its fairly common ingredients that are deeply rooted in Ayurvedic tradition. Here’s a straightforward recipe for making kadha to help relieve your symptoms.

Start by boiling 2 cups of water in a pan. Add about 1 to 1.5 inches of fresh ginger, thinly sliced or crushed, which is known for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Next, include half a teaspoon of turmeric powder (or a small piece of dry turmeric root if available), which is a potent antiviral and antibacterial that can aid in reducing inflammation and enhancing immunity.

Add 4-5 black peppercorns (or a pinch of black pepper powder) to the mix. Black pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric and provides its own benefits in terms of congestion relief and improved breathing. If you have it at hand, add a few cloves and a small stick of cinnamon, as they help to improve circulation and are warming herbs.

You may also add a few basil leaves, also known as Tulsi leaves, which help in boosting the immune response and alleviating respiratory ailments. Let the mixture simmer over medium heat until it reduces to about half of its original volume — this takes roughly 10-15 minutes. This reduction intensifies the active ingredients, making the kadha more effective.

Once it’s ready, strain it into a cup and consider sweetening lightly with honey if desired, but only once the kadha has cooled down slightly to preserve the beneficial properties of honey. You can consume this kadha 1-2 times a day, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach and in the evening before bedtime.

While it won’t magically cure a cold overnight, you’ll likely notice significant relief in your symptoms within a few days. Besides, ensure you continue staying hydrated with warm fluids, and incorporate rest as much as possible. If the symptoms persist beyond a week or worsen, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
