I am really curious about what kind of cold drink is good for health. You see, I've been feeling all sluggish after downing those sugary sodas every weekend, but I just can't resist them during the hot summer days! Last week, I tried drinking some coconut water instead, and while it's refreshing, I feel like I need a few more options. Are there any cold drinks that are actually healthy and taste good? I heard herbal teas can be chilled too? What's the opinion on fruit smoothies? Like, which cold drink is good for health without making me feel guilty after having it? Trying to make better choices here!

Coconut water is a wonderful choice, particularly in the summer. It’s sweet and hydrating, rich in electrolytes — ideal for pitta types or anyone feeling overheated. But if you’re looking for variety, absolutely consider herbal teas. Peppermint tea, steeped and then chilled, can be very cooling and helps digestion. Just steep a teaspoon of dried peppermint leaves in hot water for 10 minutes, cool it completely and then serve it chilled. Similarly, a fennel or coriander tea can be brewed and chilled, both have digestive and cooling properties.

Smoothies are also a solid option, yet they should be approached with balance in mind. Blending seasonal fruits like melons, grapes, or berries with a base of homemade almond milk or a light coconut milk can make it both nourishing and cooling. Adding a pinch of cardamom or cinnamon may enhance digestive properties. But, be cautious with quantity and avoid mixing too many ingredients at once as it can overwhelm the Agni.

Additionally, consider making a spiced buttermilk (lasis). Preparing a buttermilk by diluting yogurt with water and adding a pinch of cumin and a little rock salt can soothe Pitta and help with sluggish digestion, drinking after mid-day meals or as mid-afternoon refreshment.

Remember that not everyone’s digestion will react the same way, so pay attention to how your body feels after trying any drink. Continually assess the effect on your body and adjust the ingredients to fit your constitution and the prevailing season. Enjoy exploring these options, and you may find a combination that meets your taste as well as your doshic balance.
