I am really confused about how to consume basil seeds. A few weeks ago, my friend told me about their health benefits, like they help with digestion and hydration, which sounded great. I bought some from this health store, but now I'm stuck. I put a couple of teaspoons in water overnight, and they got all gel-like, which is normal, I think? But then I wasn't sure what to do with them! Can I just eat them like that? Or do I mix them in a smoothie, or do I have to add them to food like yogurt? I’ve also heard people talk about putting them in drinks like lemonade or even desserts, but how long do they need to soak before that happens? I'm worried I’m not using them right, and I'm missing out on their benefits. Honestly, I just need simple instructions on how to consume basil seeds without making it complicated! Do they taste weird or anything? Thanks for any tips!

Soaking them for about 15 to 30 minutes until they swell up and form a gel-like layer is typically enough, so overnight soaking isn’t necessary. However, you can do that too if it’s more convenient for you. They don’t have much taste on their own, so you can easily add them to different food items.

1. Direct Consumption: Yes, you can eat them just after soaking; simply strain off excess water (if there’s any) and you’re ready to go.

2. In Beverages: They can be added to lemonade, a practice quite popular. Just put the soaked seeds in any cool drink of your choice post-soaking, adding them will not notably change the taste but will add a slight texture.
