Hi Sweta,

Thank you for sharing your father’s health details. To better understand his condition, could you tell me if he experiences any swelling in his legs, ankles, or face? Also, how is his appetite and digestion, and does he have any difficulty sleeping? Has he had any recent changes in his urine output or frequency? This will help me provide more specific suggestions for his health management.

In Ayurveda, your father’s condition can be understood as a result of Vata and Pitta imbalance affecting the Mutravaha Srotas (urinary system) and Raktavaha Srotas (circulatory system). The management focuses on reducing the progression of kidney disease, improving hemoglobin, and supporting heart health.

Ayurvedic Protocol:

Diet (Aahar) Follow a Sattvic, light diet with freshly cooked, easily digestible food. Avoid excess salt, spicy, and oily food. Include cooked green leafy vegetables in moderation, like spinach and bottle gourd. Consume pomegranate, beetroot, and black raisins to support hemoglobin levels. Barley water and coriander water can act as natural diuretics to support kidney function. Cow’s milk in moderation with a pinch of turmeric may help with general weakness. Lifestyle (Vihar) Practice gentle yoga like Bhujangasana and Pavanamuktasana to aid digestion and reduce pressure on kidneys. Pranayama like Anulom Vilom and Bhramari can help regulate oxygen levels and reduce stress. Ensure proper rest and avoid overexertion. Herbal Support (Aushadhi) (Under Ayurvedic doctor’s supervision) RASAYAN CHUrna - 1 teaspoon with 10 ml of Syp Punarnavadi kasayam twice daily before food. Lohasava or Drakshasava – Useful in managing anemia and improving hemoglobin. Detoxification (Panchakarma) Mild Basti (enema therapy) using herbal oils or decoctions can balance Vata and support kidney health. Abhyanga (oil massage) and Swedana (steam therapy) can relieve muscle tension and improve circulation. Regular Monitoring and Consultation Periodic check-ups for creatinine, GFR, hemoglobin, and blood pressure. Consult an experienced Ayurvedic doctor for personalized treatment. This integrative approach, combined with allopathic monitoring, can provide comprehensive care and better quality of life.

Thank you ma’am

Sounds like your father’s dealing with pretty complex stuff. His creatinine and GFR indicate some level of chronic kidney disease (CKD). With a GFR of 22, it’s kinda around stage 4, meaning it’s pretty crucial to monitor the kidneys closely.

First thing, and this can’t be stressed enough, make sure a nephrologist is involved in his care. Chronic kidney disease shouldn’t be managed alone, specialy when other health problems like heart issues are at play. Make sure his doctors know everything.

For Ayurveda to help support, there’s a few areas we can take a closer look at. First off, diet plays a big role. Reducing sodium and potassium, typically found in processed foods and some fruits and veggies, is vital. Think more home-cooked meals, keeping it simple and fresh. Rice, white bread or pasta could be gentler right now. And plenty of water helps flush the system without overloading the kidneys — but you’d want to balance hydration with what the cardiologist recommends for his heart.

A little about breathing issues — those might be an effect of anemia (low hemoglobin), which isn’t uncommon with CKD. While iron supplements could help, only use them under a doctor’s guidance. Ayurvedic-friendly iron like Mandura Bhasma might be supportive but always double-check with his care team first.

Apart from diet, light walks, provided his energy levels allow, can help with circulation. But rest is just as important; overdoing it can stress the heart. Pranayama, when done gently, can be supportive too, but again only under supervision and if he’s comfortable.

This is delicate terrain with such overlapping health concerns. The big thing is communicating with all the healthcare folks who are helping him out. Ayurveda is about harmonizing with nature, but safety and balance come first!
