Your symptoms—difficulty taking a full breath, neck pain, and the need to suddenly breathe—require careful attention. Limitations in breathing could be rooted in respiratory imbalances, possibly around the bronchial region, or even tensions in the upper body, which may be associated with certain doshas, like Vata and Kapha. However, given the physical discomfort and duration, it’s crucial to safely address the issue.

Firstly, consultating with a medical professional promptly is crucial to exclude potentially serious conditions such as cardiovascular issues or those requiring immediate medical intervention. These should be ruled out before seeking Ayurvedic interventions.

Upon clearance from a healthcare provider, Ayurveda can offer supportive measures for your condition. Begin with daily pranayama practices—Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) is beneficial. Practice this in a seated position, with eyes closed for about 5-10 minutes in the morning. This helps clear the nasal passages and enhances respiratory efficiency.

Ensure to focus on a diet that balances Vata and Kapha doshas. Warm, cooked meals with ghee and spices like ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper can support digestion and reduce Kapha accumulation. Avoid cold, heavy and stale foods, as these can increase congestion and exacerbate symptoms.

Oil massage (Abhyanga) with sesame oil, warmed slightly, can be done regularly to soothe muscular tensions. Apply gently on the neck and shoulders before a warm bath, allowing the warmth to penetrate.

Finally, look at stress management. Stress can trigger or worsen symptoms such as breathlessness. Simple meditation or yoga Nidra practiced daily can help. Consider professional guidance for specific yoga postures that open the chest and improve breathing. Avoid self-prescription of Ayurvedic herbs without professional guidance, especially if taking other medication.

Experiencing shortness of breath, particularly with exertion like walking up stairs, along with pain in neck suggests a few possibilities that may need to be explored. In the perspective of Siddha-Ayurveda, your symptoms could indicate an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which is responsible for movement and air within the body. However, it is critical to consider more immediate medical evaluations, especially if these symptoms are causing significant distress or have persisted for a year.

In Ayurveda, your symptoms may relate to a congestion in the nadis (energy channels) or improper flow of prana (life force), possibly influenced by an imbalance in Vata around the udana vayu region, affecting breathing and voice.

Here’s how to approach: 1. Diet: Focus on a Vata-pacifying diet. Warm, cooked, easy-to-digest foods could help stabilize Vata. Include foods like boiled rice, warm milk with a pinch of turmeric, ghee, and warm vegetable soups. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods that can increase Vata imbalance.

2. Breathing Exercises: Practice gentle pranayama exercises such as Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) to aid in balancing energy channels and promote relaxation. However, avoid any breath retention techniques that might cause discomfort.

3. Herbal Support: Consider taking herbal formulations like Ashwagandha and Brahmi, but consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure suitability.

4. Daily Routine: Incorporate warm oil massages (Abhyanga) with sesame oil, which can help calm Vata. Avoid stress and undue exertion.

Given the serious nature of breath-related symptoms, it is essential you consult a healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation to rule out any underlying conditions like cardiac issues or respiratory illnesses. This is important for safety, given the potential seriousness of these symptoms.
