Acne - #19127
I have closed comedones from last 1 year, they go and back. I always take healthy diet not because of just acne but this is my habit. I was on accutane for 3 months but after one month they went back. I am very tensed about this condition. But then I realized the problem is with my gut or liver but I am confused what to start or where to start.

Doctors’ responses
Your symptoms indicate an imbalance in Pitta and Kapha doshas, likely due to gut and liver dysfunction. Since you have a history of typhoid, your digestion and liver function may have weakened, leading to toxin buildup (Ama), which can manifest as persistent acne.
1. Detox & Heal the Liver
Aloe Vera & Amla Juice (10 ml each, morning on an empty stomach) – Cleanses the liver and purifies the blood. Triphala Powder (1/2 tsp at night with warm water) – Supports digestion and flushes out toxins. Neem ghan Vati twice daily – after food…Help purify the blood and prevent acne recurrence.
2. Gut Health & Digestion Support
Fennel & Cumin Water – Boil 1 tsp fennel + 1 tsp cumin seeds in water and drink after meals. Buttermilk with Rock Salt & Mint – Improves gut flora and reduces inflammation.
3. Skincare with Ayurvedic Remedies
Apply Sandalwood & Rosewater Paste – Soothes skin and reduces inflammation. Turmeric & Honey Spot Treatment – Natural antibacterial for acne. Steam with Neem Leaves (once a week) – Clears clogged pores and prevents breakouts.
4. Lifestyle Detoxification Avoid Dairy, Fried Foods, and Excess Sugar – These trigger acne and toxin accumulation.
Closed comedones, huh? They’re stubborn little guys, aren’t they? If they’ve been coming and going even after taking accutane, yup, there might be something systemic at play. Sounds like you’re already aware that Ayurveda emphasizes the gut and liver as central to skin health, which is spot on.
Let’s dig into this a bit from an Ayurvedic perspective. We’re looking at potential dosha imbalances, possibly Kapha due to blockages, or maybe Pitta from inflammation. Your concern about the gut is valid — everything comes back to that good ol’ digestive fire, or agni, in Ayurveda.
First, about diet. Even if it’s healthy, it’s possible that something doesn’t suit your prakriti (constitution). Try integrating more light, easy-to-digest meals. Cooked veggies, whole grains like quinoa or brown rice can be good. Avoid cold foods and drinks that might slow digestion. Including spices like cumin, coriander, and ginger could help rekindle that agni.
Next, for the liver: you could start with herbs known for liver support, like guduchi or turmeric. They have potential anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties. A simple preparation - boiled guduchi stem in water, sipped like tea could work. Start with small doses to see how your body reacts.
And let’s not forget stress. Stress definitely messes with the skin. A bit of yoga or meditation might help you manage that. Breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom, relaxed deep breaths, can calm your mind and balance doshas.
Remember to drink enough water throughout the day, but not with meals – that can dilute digestive enzymes. Herbal teas or just warm water can support digestion.
Jurisdiction warning: if these closed comedones don’t calm down, don’t hesitate to chat with a healthcare professional. Monitor your symptoms and adjust accordingly, every individual is unique. Wishing you good skin vibes ahead!
