Hi Zerlish,
It sounds like you’ve been managing PCOS for quite a while. Can you share more about your lifestyle, stress levels, and diet, as well as any other symptoms like acne, weight gain, or excessive hair growth? Do you notice any changes in your energy or mood around your period?
In Ayurveda, PCOS is often linked to Vata and Kapha imbalances. To help regulate your cycle, you can try herbs like Shatavari and Ashoka, which are excellent for hormonal balance. Triphala is great for detoxifying and improving digestion, while Guduchi can help reduce inflammation. A Pitta and Kapha-reducing diet with low processed foods, and regular gentle exercise like yoga, can help manage your symptoms naturally.

PCOS can be a tricky condition, especially when it seems to persist despite various treatments. In Ayurveda, we approach it by looking at imbalances in your doshas, primarily aiming to balance kapha, which is often elevated in PCOS. Let’s focus first on diet. Avoid refined sugars, processed foods, and excessive dairy, as these can aggravate symptoms. Favor fresh, whole foods like leafy greens, legumes, whole grains, and fruits. Try to incorporate spices like turmeric, cumin, and cinnamon into your meals; they help balance blood sugar levels and bolsters digestion.
On the lifestyle side, Ayurveda recommends establishing a regular routine to calm vata imbalances, which often underpin hormonal issues. Engage in regular exercise – it doesn’t have to be intense. Activities like yoga or walking can help maintain body weight and regulate cycles. Techniques like Pranayama can enhance this effect by reducing stress and balancing hormones.
Herbal remedies can be supportive too. Shatavari is often used to promote hormonal balance and support reproductive health. You might take 1 teaspoon of Shatavari powder with warm milk or water in the morning. Additionally, Ashoka (Saraca asoca) is recognized for strengthening the uterus and may help regulate cycles. Consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner for precise dosage tailored to your unique needs.
Regarding treatments, consider Panchakarma therapies. These detoxifying processes can help clear blocked channels, improve metabolism, and balance hormones. However, these should performed under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic doctor.
Remember, patience is key; changes may be gradual, but consistency often leads to lasting results. If symptoms persist or worsen, consider a healthcare professional for further evaluation. Ayurveda can offer a holistic approach to managing PCOS, but it’s crucial to personalize recommendations to your needs while monitoring your progress closely.
