Lichen planus, being an autoimmune skin condition, often requires a comprehensive approach addressing both symptoms and root causes. From an Ayurvedic angle, it is linked to an imbalance in the body's doshas, typically Pitta and Vata are involved, affecting the skin and tissues deeply, along with ama (toxins) accumulation. Restarting a structured routine with a mix of diet, herbs, and lifestyle can help manage it clinically. Firstly, diet plays a crucial role - focus on a Pitta-Vata pacifying diet. This means staying away from spicy, sour, salty, and fermented foods, and opt for cooling, calming foods such as cooked vegetables, ghee, and sweet fruits like ripe mangoes n' pears. Ensure to drink plenty of warm water throughout the day to flush out toxins. For herbal support, consider after consulting a qualified Ayurveda practitioner—Manjistha or Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) which are renowned for purifying the blood. They can be used in powder form, mixed with warm water, say once or twice a day. Turmeric, owing to its anti-inflammatory properties, can be used too, possibly with a pinch of black pepper for enhanced absorption. Topically, try using homemade packs containing sandalwood and rosewater; these ingredients soothe irritated skin. Apply gently to affected areas in a paste form, leave on for 20-30 minutes, then rinse softly with lukewarm water. On the lifestyle front, reducing stress levels is vital since stress exacerbates skin conditions. Regular practices like yoga nidra or gentle yoga, and meditation enhance mind-body balance. Engage in daily routines that promote relaxation and careful management of your daily schedules to alleviate excess stress. Although these recommendations may offer support, it's crucial to re-evaluate your condition with an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure that the interventions are suitably tailored for you, especially if there's notable progression in your symptoms. Immediate care is essential, and one should not delay seeking professional help if condition worsens.
