In addressing sensorineural hearing loss and tinnitus from an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s crucial to focus on balancing the doshas, particularly Vata dosha, as it’s typically involved in nervous system issues. Importantly, Ayurveda aims to manage the condition while fortifying and supporting the healthiness of the auditory nerves.

First, focusing on diet, incorporating warm, nourishing foods can pacify Vata, so foods like cooked vegetables, soupy preparations, rice, and ghee could be helpful. Avoid cold, dry, and excessively processed foods that might aggravate Vata. Insoluble fiber sources and ginger tea can support agni, or digestive fire, promoting overall wellness.

For herbal support, Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) is traditionally acclaimed for its role in nerve health. Take a Brahmi supplement or Brahmi tea daily, but do consult a healthcare professional knowledgeable in Ayurveda before starting. Ashwagandha can provide additional support for nerves; its calming, grounding energy helps ground excess Vata dosha. Ensure that any supplement complies with safety standards and is tailored to your specific constitution.

A crucial component in Ayurveda is lifestyle, specifically Dinacharya, or daily routing. Engaging in regular Pranayama, like Anulom Vilom, can regulate nervous imbalances and stress. Meditation helps anchor mental restlessness that may exacerbate tinnitus. Yoga, focusing on gentle poses like Sukhasana and Sethu Bandhasana, can also balance Vata.

Nasya treatment, where medicated oil like Anu taila is administered through the nostrils, may support head and sense organ health. Seek guidance from a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure this is apt for you.

Although Ayurveda provides supportive measures, it can’t guarantee reversal of nerve damage, so continue working closely with your hearing care professional. Regular health check-ups are essential to monitor your condition; don’t replace medical advice with alternative options entirely.

In terms of ear care, warm oil massages using sesame oil around the ears can improve circulation but only superficially improve the condition, never directly instilling oils unless advised. Cumulatively, these approaches can, ideally, help preserve your remaining hearing and mitigate worsening over time. Be patient and observe how your body responds over months, adjusting the strategy as you notice changes.
