Amblyopia, commonly referred to as “lazy eye,” involves decreased vision in one eye resulting from the brain and eye not properly working together. In Ayurveda, this condition can be associated with weak Dhatus (tissues), particularly the Asthi (bone tissue) and Majja (nerve tissue), and may perhaps involve an imbalance in the Pitta dosha.

Ayurvedic framework suggests supporting the health and function of the eyes through nourishment and strengthening remedies. While it might be challenging to completely reverse the effects of amblyopia at 21, you can take steps to possibly stabilize your condition and prevent further degeneration.

First, consider a wholesome diet that supports eye health, such as including carrots, spinach, amla (Indian gooseberry), and almonds in your daily intake. These foods are rich in vitamins and nutrients that promote eye health. Drinking a daily mixture of Triphala water (a teaspoon of Triphala powder steeped overnight in a glass of water and consumed the next morning) could help cleanse body toxins and support eye function.

Practicing Tratak (a Yogic eye technique involving gazing at a fixed point, like the flame of a candle or a black dot on a wall) can strengthen eye muscles and improve focus. Just be sure to practice in a comfortable sitting position, spending 10-15 minutes on this exercise every day, ensuring a calm mind.

Applying a few drops of Anu Taila (an Ayurvedic nasal drop) can promote clarity in senses, potentially benefiting ocular health. Try introducing it in the early morning on an empty stomach; tilt your head back and place 2-3 drops in each nostril.

Keep in mind, these recommendations may only aid in managing and supporting eye health, not specifically curing amblyopia as raised by modern scientific consensus. Also, pursue a balance in your lifestyle—fostering relaxation, minimizing screen time, and practicing Pranayama to maintain emotional stability and reduce stress.

Remember to consult with an experienced Ayurvedic physician for a personalized plan per your prakriti (constitution), ensuring compatibility with any existing treatments or medications you’re using, and avoid drastic decisions without specialized guidance.
