is dalia good for weight gain - #23776
I am really confused about this whole dalia thing for weight gain. A couple of weeks ago, I was chatting with a friend who swears that dalia is good for weight gain, and I've been looking into it ever since. I used to be really fit, but after some stress and starting a new job, I've lost quite a bit of weight, like more than I’d like to admit. My doctor said I should try and gain some healthy weight, and dalia just keeps popping up. So, I've started eating it for breakfast, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I eat it with milk and sometimes add banana or nuts, which makes it feel kinda heavy, but I don’t know if that's really helping? I've read that dalia is good for weight gain, but I feel like it might be just a myth. Is dalia good for weight gain, or is it more for people looking to lose weight? How much should I be eating, or does it depend on how I prepare it? Just feeling a bit lost here. Help!

Dalia can indeed be beneficial for weight gain, under the right conditions. In Ayurveda, we consider food not just by calorie count, but by its qualities (guna), potency (virya), and post-digestive effect (vipaka). Dalia, also known as broken wheat, is versatile - it can support weight gain when combined with the right ingredients and consumed correctly.
Dalia itself is rich in fiber and carbohydrates which is good for nourishing the dhatus or bodily tissues. But, for someone looking to gain weight, it’s important to enhance it’s nutritional profile. Preparing daliua with milk, which is considered heavy and nourishing in Ayurveda, is a good combination. Adding bananas and nuts provides not just extra calories but the vital nutrients and healthy fats necessary for weight building.
Here’s a suggestion: Try cooking your dalia using full-cream milk to increase calorie density while keeping it nutritious. Toss in a banana, and a tablespoon of ghee, which is excellent for digestion and absorption, as Ayurveda reveres it for its ojas-enhancing qualities. Quantity can depend on your own body’s capacity to digest and absorb; start with half a cup and adjust as necessary. Eating this combination in the morning sets a grounded tone for the day.
Variety is also key. You might also rotate dalia with other nourishing meals like kitchari enriched with lentils and ghee, or rice poha cooked with milk and dry fruits. Avoid excessive stress, late nights, or high caffeine consumption as they adversely affect digestion, which is paramount in any weight adjustment plan.
Practically, aim for a balanced diet that ensures you are getting plenty of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates beyond just dalia. An integrative approach considering your lifestyle habits, stress management and exercise is crucial. If your digestive fire (agni) is functioning well, you should gradually see weight gain. As always, listen to your body’s signals and respond with care and attention.
