can we use multani mitti daily for oily skin - #24352

Ellie

I am struggling with my oily skin lately. Like, it’s super shiny by midday, and I feel like I’ve tried everything! I heard about this multani mitti thing and its supposed benefits, especially for oily skin, and thought I'd give it a shot. But here’s the thing — can we use multani mitti daily for oily skin or is that too much? I used it a couple of times last week, and my face felt great after, but I worry about overdoing it. My skin has been breaking out a bit, you know, the usual suspects — blackheads and some inflamed spots. I really don’t want to mess things up more! Been reading that multani mitti can help absorb excess oil and unclog pores, but does daily use make sense? Or should I mix it with something else? Also, is there any downside to using it every day, like irritation or something? I’m kinda hopeful this can be my go-to for oily skin, but I just need a lil’ guidance before I dive in. Thanks!

Using multani mitti, also known as Fuller's earth, can indeed be beneficial for oily skin due to its properties of absorbing oil and unclogging pores. However, incorporating it into your daily routine should be approached with consideration. While it is tempting to use it every day, doing so may strip your skin of its natural oils leading to dryness or irritation over time. It's generally safer for most people to apply multani mitti 2 to 3 times a week. This frequency allows you to harness its benefits without over-drying or irritating your skin. Anecdotal evidence and traditional Ayurvedic texts support this controlled approach to prevent the imbalance of your skin’s natural moisture. If your skin is prone to breaking out, adding a small amount of rose water to multani mitti can have a soothing effect and help maintain balance. Alternatively, mixing it with plain yogurt or honey can enhance its moisturizing abilities, making it gentler. Each of these additions tailors to different skin imbalances and helps reduce potential irritations from frequent use. Regarding breaking out, it's crucial to consider your overall skincare routine alongside multani mitti use. Cleansing your face with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser before and moisturizing after using the mask can support skin health. Sensitive or reactive skin types might experience irritation more readily with multani mitti. If any symptoms of irritation occur, reducing usage frequency could help. Additionally, addressing the oiliness through dietary and lifestyle choices can have a significant impact. Avoid oily, spicy, and processed foods and favor those that promote balance, such as fresh fruits and vegetables. Hydration is equally essential; endeavor to keep your body hydrated as this can naturally regulate oil production. In corrsect situations, professional advice from a dermatologist or an Ayurvedic practitioner can provide personalized insights, particularly if your skin concerns persist or worsen.
