I am really confused about this whole ground nut oil thing. I've been hearing different things from people lately! A couple weeks ago, I switched to ground nut oil for cooking because I heard it was healthier than some of the other oils out there. My friend said she uses it all the time and feels great. But then, I went on some forums and there are people saying is ground nut oil good for health? Like, are there really benefits or is it just a fad? There’s this whole debate about the smoke point and the omega fats in it. Also, my mom said that I shouldn’t use it too much because of allergies, but I thought I was safe since I don't have allergies? Ugh, it's all so confusing! I've been feeling a bit sluggish too, and now I’m wondering if switching to ground nut oil could be contributing. Need to know if is ground nut oil good for health or should I just stick with olive oil? Any insights or share experiences would be super helpful! Thanks!

Groundnut oil, also known as peanut oil, is indeed often considered a healthy option for cooking, but its actual impact can vary based on individual needs and constitutions as described in Ayurvedic principles. Groundnut oil can offer several health benefits owing to its nutrient composition, including monosaturated fats, which are generally beneficial for heart health — much like olive oil. This can make it a good choice for those looking to improve cardiovascular well-being.

However, from an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s essential to consider your personal dosha (constitution) when determining if groundnut oil is suitable for you. For example, Vata types, who often need warming and nourishing foods, might find groundnut oil quite beneficial due to its grounding properties. Pitta types should use it sparingly, considering it’s heavy and somewhat greasy nature. Kapha types might already have sufficient earth and water element balance, and thus, might not find groundnut oil to be ideal in large amounts.

Regarding the smoke point, while groundnut oil does have a high smoke point, which can be beneficial for high-heat cooking, it is also rich in omega-6 fatty acids. Modern diets can sometimes have an imbalance where omega-6 overshadow omega-3 fatty acids, so incorporating foods rich in omega-3s is also important alongside your use of groundnut oil.

Since your mother mentioned allergies, be mindful! Allergies to peanuts are common, and sometimes, allergies can be dormant and surface in later stages. This does not mean you should avoid it if no allergies have been documented, but being cautious and observing any reactions (like feeling sluggish) is prudent.
