Tanning on the forehead which persists for years can be a result of deep sun exposure that has affected the skin layers. In Ayurveda, this could be seen as an imbalance of Pitta dosha, which is associated with heat and inflammation. To address this issue, you might consider an integrative approach focusing on both external and internal treatments.
Firstly, external application of coconut oil can be beneficial as it has natural cooling properties. Massage a small amount onto your forehead daily before bed. Additionally, you can prepare a paste of sandalwood powder with a little rose water and apply it, leave for 15-20 minutes before washing. Sandalwood is known for its Pitta-pacifying effects and can help reduce the tanning.
Internally, it’s critical to focus on a diet that alleviates Pitta. Try incorporating cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, and herbs such as coriander and fennel in your meals. Avoid spicy, oily, and fried foods which can aggravate Pitta.
Drinking a glass of amla juice (Indian gooseberry) can also help as it is rich in Vitamin C, which aids in skin health. Another remedy could be taking a teaspoon of Triphala powder at night with warm water, it helps in detoxifying and improving the overall health of the skin.
Make sure to hydrate well throughout the day, aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water which helps to flush out toxins and maintains skin’s natural glow. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect from further tanning, even on cloudy days as UV rays can still penetrate.
These approaches should be accompanied by maintaining a regular sleep routine, ideally sleeping and rising with the sun helps to balance doshas naturally. In case the condition doesn’t improve or seems to get worsen, consulting an Ayurvedic physician directly for a personalized treatment plan would be advisable.
