When it comes to addressing premature graying of hair, Ayurveda suggests that imbalances in your doshas could be affecting your hair. For instance, an increase in Pitta dosha can result in hair pigment loss. I would recommend incorporating Amla (Indian Gooseberry) into your diet, which is rich in Vitamin C and recognized in Ayurveda for its potential to slow down graying. You can consume Amla juice or use it in a hair mask by mixing it with coconut oil, applying it on your scalp once a week. Prioritize cooling foods to balance Pitta, such as cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens.
Regarding nutrient deficiencies, if you suspect B12 or Vitamin D is lacking, a vegetarian diet can be adjusted to mitigate these gaps. Include fortified cereals and plant-based milk enriched wit Vitamin B12. For Vitamin D, spend at least 20 minutes daily in sunlight when possible and consume fortified foods such as orange juice or cow’s milk, if you’re okay with them.
Regarding your vision changes, regular screen usage can contribute to eye strain and changes in vision. In Ayurvedic tradition, practices such as eye exercises and palming can aid in reducing eye strain. Palming is simple: Rub your palms together to generate heat and place them over your closed eyes with gentle pressure. Do this several times a day. Incorporate breaks every 20 minutes of screen time looking at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds — known as the 20-20-20 rule.
Dietary inclusions like Triphala may also support overall eye health. You can consume Triphala churna with warm water before bed. Beta-carotene rich foods such as carrots, pumpkin and mango can help maintain eye health.
In cases where vision changes rapidly, such as your case of the jump in prescription, it’s imperative to consult an eye specialist to rule out any underlying conditions that may require medical attention. Always be sure there are no contraindications with lifestyle changes or supplements you may wish to try, personalized adjustments guided by professional consultation would definitely help in reversing these conditions.
To address white hair, particularly if there’s a concern about nutrient deficiencies, integrating specific dietary and lifestyle practices may help. In Siddha-Ayurveda, white hair often points to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha. A vegetarian diet can naturally support your nutritional needs. Moringa leaves are rich in B12 and can be included in your diet. Include sesame seeds for calcium and magnesium, important for overall hair health. Amlaki (Indian gooseberry) is rich in Vitamin C and can enhance natural pigmentation, while blends of Brahmi and Bhringraj oils are used for scalp massage to foster hair pigmentation and health.
Transitioning to vision, the sudden change in your eye number could stem from several factors, including eye strain from screens, which may increase dryness or tension in the eyes. Following the 20-20-20 rule—take a break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds—helps relax eye muscles. Incorporate ghee (clarified butter) in your diet to nourish ocular tissues. Ayurvedic practices like Trataka can be explored, which involves staring at a fixed point, mostly a candle flame, to strengthen focus and eye muscles.
Nutritional focus should include Vitamin A sources like carrots and green leafy vegetables; these can support eye health. Ensure your diet includes antioxidants found in colorful fruits and veggies to combat free radicals. A holistic approach is essential here, aligning both dietary and lifestyle habits to support your health goals. If there’s a drastic change in eye power or hair texture suddenly, consulting with a specialist is advisable to uncover any deeper systemic imbalances or deficiencies needing attention.
