Doctors’ responses
Yes both this medicine are good for Rheumatoid arthritis. If acid reflux can take Maharasnadi kadha 10 ml twice after food with water Ajmoodadi churan 1/2 tsp twice after food with water Dasmoola ghanvati 1-0-1 after food with water Kamdudharas moti yukta 1-0-1 after food with water. Avoid sour fermented foods, citrus fruits. Avoid direct exposure to cold weather and cold breeze.
When considering the use of Amavatari Rasa or Sinhanad Guggulu in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in someone who also has chronic acid reflux, caution is essential. Both these formulations have potential benefits for RA, but they can also potentially irritate the gut and worsen acidity. Before introducing any new supplement, especially in the elderly, it’s important to consult with a qualified practitioner.
Amavatari Rasa contains heavy metals in bhasma form, which may not be suitable for someone with acid reflux issues. Sinhanad Guggulu, on the other hand, is a classical formulation known for its effectiveness in joint diseases. It promotes digestion and toxin elimination which might benefit liver function. Taking it with honey or lukewarm water can be considered, but always start with a lower dose and monitor her symptoms.
For someone with both conditions, balancing Vata and Pitta doshas is critical. You might consider incorporating herbs like Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), which have soothing effects on both joints and acid reflux, into her daily routine. Another supportive herb is Ashwagandha, which can help with inflammation without irritating the stomach.
Dietary adjustments play a crucial role. Avoid processed foods, refined sugars, and excessive acidic foods which could trigger both arthritis and acidity. Encourage frequent, smaller meals instead of large ones, and include a lot of cooling foods like cucumber, watermelon, and leafy greens. Ginger tea could be replaced with soothing teas made from fennel or liquorice, which are gentler on the stomach.
A gentle yoga routine can aid in managing stress and improving joint mobility. Pay attention to hydration too, as staying well-hydrated with water or herbal teas is necessary for balancing digesive processes.
Ultimately, customizing a treatment plan for her involves consistent monitoring and adjustments based on how her body responds over time.
Amavatari Rasa and Sinhanad Guggulu are often used in Ayurveda to manage symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, but caution is advised given your mother’s chronic acid reflux. Both formulations contain ingredients that can potentially exacerbate acidity. Sinhanad Guggulu especially has ‘Guggulu’, which could aggravate pitta dosha, leading to more acidity.
For RA, minimizing inflammation is crucial, but this requires balancing your mother’s pitta condition. It’s advisable to use these medicines with appropriate ‘Anupana’ (vehicle or co-substance). Combine these with Aloe vera juice or cow’s milk, which can help in cooling the system and minimizing acidity. Take the medicines after meals to reduce gastric irritation, and make sure water intake is sufficient to help manage digestive fire.
Since heat and acidity are concerns, emphasizing a pitta-pacifying diet is important - favor cooling foods like cucumber, sweet fruits, and avoids spicy, acidic items.
Gandharvahastadi Kashayam could be a better option as it’s less likely to irritate the stomach lining, alleviating inflammation and balancing vata without heating the body.
Regular ginger tea can help digest ama (toxins), which contributes to RA, but monitor its effect on acidity. Turmeric with honey in warm water may also be suitable due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Consider Panchakarma therapies like Virechana, a purgation treatment, to expel excess pitta and toxins, but any cleansing procedure should only be done under the guidance of an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner.
Seek consultation for personalized dosage and specific to her current state, keeping her overall systemic balance. If there’s increased pain or acidity, or new symptoms arise, immediate medical attention is necessary to adjust the treatment plan accordingly.
