In Ayurveda, eczema is often associated with an imbalance in the doshas, particularly the Pitta and Vata doshas. When these doshas become aggravated, it can lead to excess heat and dryness in the body, affecting the skin. To address this, a multi-faceted approach is needed to help pacify the imbalanced doshas and alleviate the symptoms.

First, focusing on the diet is essential. It’s advisable to reduce intake of spicy, acidic, and fried foods, as these can aggravate Pitta dosha. Instead, include more cooling and soothing foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and coconut water in the daily diet. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as flaxseeds and chia seeds can also help soothe the skin from within.

Secondly, the application of medicated oils can provide relief. Neem oil, known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, can be applied gently to the affected area after a warm bath. Gently massage it into the skin to help it absorb. Follow this routine daily for best results.

Herbal formulations like Triphala and Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) can be helpful to cleanse the body and support immune function. Triphala is a gentle bowel cleanser and antioxidant that helps in detoxifying the body while Guduchi is known for its detoxifying and rejuvenating properties.

Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is vital. Practicing yoga and Pranayama helps in improving circulation and reducing stress, which can exacerbate skin conditions. Ensure sufficient hydration and restorative sleep as they are crucial for skin healing.

Consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner can provide individual guidance, as remedies could vary depending on personal constitution (prakriti). If symptoms persist or worsen, medical attention should be sought.

While eczema can be a persistent condition, addressing it through Siddha-Ayurvedic principles can offer a supportive approach. The increase in irritation and rash at the back of the knee may be influenced by an imbalance in doshas, particularly Pitta and Kapha. It’s essential to target the root cause and build a harmony within the body.

Firstly, look at your daughter’s diet. Encourage a Pitta-pacifying diet which includes cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Avoid spicy, fried, and excessively salty foods as they can increase inflammation. Ensure she drinks plenty of water to keep her body hydrated.

Herbal remedies can also be beneficial. Applying a paste of neem and turmeric directly to the affected area might help soothe the inflammation due to their natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Mix equal parts of neem powder and turmeric with a little water to form a paste and apply it once daily for 30 minutes before rinsing off gently with warm water.

For internal balance, try including Triphala mixed in warm water before bed. It aids digestion and detoxifies the digestive tract, indirectly alleviating skin issues influenced by digestive disturbances.

Additionally, stress management practices like yoga or meditation should be encouraged, as stress can exacerbate eczema. Sunlight exposure in moderation might also provide some relief, given the benefits of Vitamin D on the skin.

However, it’s important to note that if the rash worsens or if there’s cracking, bleeding, or infection, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial. Eczema can become severe, and sometimes a combination of approaches is necessary.
