Doctors’ responses
Dear Megha You need personal consultation.
For polycystic ovarian disorder (PCOD) and hyperthyroidism, addressing hormonal imbalances through Ayurveda requires a nuanced approach. Firstly, understanding your dosha constitution is crucial, as your prakriti (innate balance) might give insights into how these conditions manifest specifically for you. Generally, PCOD often involves kapha imbalance, while Vata imbalances can exacerbate hyperthyroid symptoms.
In your case, the sudden onset of period despite unfinished oral contraceptive might not be unusual while dealing with hormonal irregularities. However, consult with your healthcare provider regarding any unexpected bleeding during medication.
Dietary adjustments are essential. Favor warm, freshly prepared foods like steamed vegetables, whole grains and legumes to support digestion and balance kapha. Avoid white flour, refined sugars, and icy or processed foods, which can disrupt hormonal harmony.
Dinacharya or daily routine adjustments could be beneficial. Try to wake up around sunrise and start your day with a glass of warm lemon water which aids in agni (digestive fire). Practicing regular yoga or light exercise in the morning can encourage circulation and balance kapha dosha. Specifically, postures that focus on pelvic opening or stimulating the thyroid area, such as Bow Pose (Dhanurasana), might be favorable.
Herbal remedies like Ashwagandha has shown promise for both thyroid regulation and hormone balance - but please, use it under professional Ayurvedic guidance. Trikatu and Triphala support metabolic processes, helping to manage weight fluctuations – again, their usage should be according to your specific needs and under supervision.
Finally, stress management through meditation or pranayama is vital. Stress can interfere with both endocrine functions and cycle regularity, so prioritize relaxation techniques regularly. If any immediate concerns arise, especially linked to medications or unexpected bodily reactions, seek medical advice promptly.
