what are the causes of hair fall - #37032

Grayson

I am really worried about my hair fall lately. It's just like, out of nowhere, I started seeing so much hair in my brush! I mean, I always knew some hair would fall out, but now I feel like I'm losing way more than usual. I've tried to keep track, but some days it feels like I could barely leave the house without looking like a raccoon with all that fur everywhere, ugh! I’m in my late 30s, not super stressed but the last few months have been a rollercoaster with work and family stuff, maybe that's part of it? I've also changed up my diet a little, eating more fast food cuz life got busy. Could that have something to do with it? My scalp sometimes feels tender too, which is weird and I don't remember that happening before. I read a bit about what are the causes of hair fall in general, and it seems like it could be anything from hormonal changes to diet. Is there maybe a connection with my lifestyle that I'm missing? Like, what are the causes of hair fall that you guys think I should look into first? Also, is there anything I can do to prevent this now? Any natural remedies that actually work? I really, REALLY don’t want to keep losing my hair like this!

Hair fall can indeed stem from lifestyle and dietary choices, quite possibly the ones you’ve mentioned. In Ayurveda, hair is closely linked to bone health, as both originate from the same tissue – asthi dhatu. Additionally, the imbalance of the doshas, particularly Pitta imbalance, can lead to hair fall. The tender scalp might suggest excess heat in the body, a reflection of aggravated Pitta dosha.

Firstly, yes, your recent dietary changes, especially eating more fast food, can contribute to this issue. Fast foods usually increase your body’s toxicity levels (ama) and affect your overall health, including hair. Nutrient absorption can suffer, leading to deficiencies crucial for hair health, like in vitamins and minerals. You should aim to incorporate more whole foods, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet. These changes can help balance Pitta and nourish the dhatus.

Stress, even moderate, can affect the balance of your doshas. Finding ways to calm your mind through yoga or meditation can support in managing and reducing stressors. Try dedicating even 15-20 minutes daily.

Hormonal changes could also play a role given your age. More significantly, hydration balances Vata to support healthy hair. Increase your fluid intake, and consider coconut water or herbal teas to keep your overall doshas in check.

To prevent further hair fall and nurture your scalp, regular scalp massages using suitable oils like bhringraj oil or coconut oil can be beneficial. Warm the oil slightly, apply it to your scalp and gently massage for at least 10 minutes before washing. This can enhance circulation and fortify the hair roots.

Start with these modifications and observe any improvements. Consistency is key in seeing results, and remember addressing the root cause — be it lifestyle, diet, or stress — is pivotal in Ayurveda. If symptoms persist, consulting with a local Ayurvedic practitioner can offer more personalized guidance.

Hair fall can indeed be distressing, and understanding its root causes is vital in addressing it. From a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, hair loss is often linked to imbalances in the doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta. Lifestyle factors like stress, diet changes, and even emotional changes can exacerbate these imbalances.

First, let’s consider how your recent lifestyle changes might contribute to hair fall. The increase in stress, even if not overwhelming, combined with a diet rich in fast food, can disrupt your body’s balance. Fast food often lacks the vital nutrients your scalp and hair follicles need. This may affect your agni (digestive and metabolic fire) leading to a weakened ability to nourish the dhatus (tissues), including the majja dhatu, which is linked to hair health.

The tender scalp might indicate a Pitta imbalance, potentially aggravated by spicy or processed foods, which are more common in fast food diets. This could lead to increased heat in the scalp, affecting hair health and growth. If you tend to notice your scalp feels hot or inflamed, it’s likely pointing towards this. To restore balance, including cooling foods like cucumber, bitter gourd, and amla in your diet might be beneficial.

Now, for practical steps to address this: start by incorporating a balanced diet rich in whole foods, fresh fruits, and vegetables to nourish your dhatus appropriately. Regular oil massages using coconut or sesame oil infused with herbs like bhringraj or neem can soothe and strengthen the scalp and roots. Aloe vera gel can also be applied to the scalp to cool and reduce any inflammation.

Furthermore, practice pranayama or simple breathing exercises to manage stress. Even a few minutes a day can help in maintaining mental balance, which indirectly supports hair health. Consider seeking an experienced practitioner to provide a more personalized plan, taking into consideration your prakriti (constitution) and current health status. While these measures can be very effective, if you notice significant changes or no improvement, consulting a healthcare professional is prudent to rule out any underlying conditions.
