In Ayurveda, psoriasis is often related to an imbalance of doshas, particularly an excess of Vata and Kapha. To address psoriasis, it’s important to focus on balancing these doshas through lifestyle and dietary changes. Start by incorporating warm, cooked, and soothing foods into your diet. Avoid cold, raw foods and heavy meals which may aggravate Kapha. Include spices like cumin, fennel, coriander, and turmeric, as they help in balancing the digestive fire, or agni. You should drink warm water or herbal teas through the day.
For your dry scalp, the key is in consistent nourishing and hydration. Applying a warm Ayurvedic oil like coconut oil or sesame oil gently massaged into the scalp could provide relief. Do this before showering and leave it in for at least 30 minutes. If you can find it, Brahmi oil is particularly recommended in Ayurveda for soothing scalp issues.
To minimize the itch, sandalwood paste is widely recommended in Ayurveda for its cooling properties. Mix some sandalwood powder with rosewater and apply it as a mask on your scalp, leaving it for about 20-25 minutes and then rinse off.
Focus on creating a calming routine as stress can often exacerbate these conditions. Try incorporating daily pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation into your routine to help in maintaining dosha balance. Yoga, practiced regularly can be very benificial in calming the mind and the body.
It is indeed possible that hormonal changes could contribute to skin issues like psoriasis, especially if the changes result in increased stress levels or poor dietary habits. However, without further personal evaluation, it’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider to explore the hormonal aspect and exclude any underlying conditions. Always consider discussing any Ayurvedic treatments with your doctor, particularly if your symptoms persist or worsen.
