sugarcane is heat or cold for body - #37879
I am really struggling with what I’ve heard about sugarcane and its effects on the body. Last week, I had this really weird heat rash after a couple of hot days, and a friend suggested I drink sugarcane juice to cool down but then I was like, is sugarcane heat or cold for body?! I mean, sounds pretty confusing! I’ve read online that it can be both — or maybe it's just warm? To add to that, I've been feeling pretty fatigued, almost like my energy is just draining away. Some things I eat help, but other stuff makes me feel heavy and slow. It’s like figuring out the right foods has turned into this complicated puzzle. I tried sugarcane juice a couple of days ago, and it tasted nice, but now I'm wondering if it might’ve been the wrong choice since my rash hasn’t gone away yet. Would drinking sugarcane juice help cool down the body heat, or is it more for providing energy, especially in summer? Ugh, I don’t want to wait for dr. visits since it's so hot and bothersome! So, sugarcane is heat or cold for body? I could really use some help figuring this out. Thanks!

Sugarcane juice is generally considered cooling in Ayurveda. It’s particularly beneficial in helping to reduce pitta dosha, which is associated with heat in the body. This could potentially help with heat-related issues like rashes, especially during hot weather. It’s important to know, though, that the cooling effect mostly applies when consumed fresh and in moderation.
Your experience of still having heat rash could be due to other factors, like diet, lifestyle or your individual constitution, which may be aggravating the pitta. Keep in mind, to avoid foods that naturally increase body heat, like spicy foods, fermented products, or caffeine, when dealing with these symptoms.
Now, sugarcane does also provide energy because of its natural sugars. It can be quite refreshing and revitalizing, especially in summer months, so your fatigue might benefit from it. But remember, balance is key; too much sugarcane might lead to excess kapha accumulation, which can feel heavy and sluggish, countering the energetic benefits. If you’re still feeling fatigued, you might want to take a look at your overall diet and see if you’re getting enough nutrients like iron and B vitamins, possibly check in with an ayurvedic doctor if possible.
Given your current symptoms, try balancing your diet with more cooling foods. Focusing on things like cucumbers, melons, and mint, while also keeping yourself hydrated, can support the cooling process. Moderation is crucial; listen to your body and pay attention to how particular foods affect you individually. Avoid excessive physical exertion in heat and keep to a consistent sleep schedule to maintain energy levels.
If you’re still concerned about your symptoms, or if they persist, it would be advisable to seek professional medical advice. Heat rashes and fatigue can sometimes be related to factors like infection or other underlying conditions that might need more targeted treatments beyond dietary adaptations.
