Seeking Help for Inflammatory Bowel Disease Management - #51510

Himanshu

Currently, my ESR level is 40, and I am experiencing 5–6 episodes of loose motion daily. Despite ongoing treatment, my symptoms are still persistent. I would sincerely appreciate it if anyone could suggest effective medications, treatments, or guidance that might help manage this condition better. Thank you in advance for your support and suggestions.

How would you describe the severity of your loose motions?:

- Moderate, several times a day

What treatments or medications have you tried so far?:

- Prescription medications

Do you notice any specific triggers for your symptoms?:

- Stress or anxiety

Doctors' responses

Namaste, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) can cause frequent loose motions, intestinal inflammation, and weakness. Stress and anxiety can also worsen the symptoms and trigger flare-ups. Simple measures that may help: Follow a light, easily digestible diet such as rice, moong dal, boiled vegetables, and pomegranate. Avoid very spicy, fried, processed foods, and excessive dairy, which may aggravate the intestines. Drink adequate fluids like warm water, rice water, or buttermilk with roasted cumin to support digestion. Practice stress management through yoga, meditation, or gentle breathing exercises. Since your ESR is elevated and symptoms are ongoing, it is important to continue follow-up with your doctor for proper monitoring of inflammation. Ayurvedic medicines sometimes used to support intestinal balance include: Kutajghan Vati – traditionally used to support intestinal health and help manage loose motions. Bilwadi Churna – sometimes used to support digestion and help reduce diarrhea. Consult me for more advice and suggestions on the above medicines.

–You have moderate, ongoing inflammation in your bowel, which is why you’re having 5–6 loose motions a day and your ESR is elevated. Your current medications haven’t fully controlled the disease, so we need to reassess your treatment. This might include adjusting your medications or considering therapies In the meantime, it helps to stay hydrated, manage stress, and avoid foods that trigger symptoms. It’s also important to monitor for red flags like severe pain, high fever, or blood in the stool, which would need urgent care. –1. Internal Medicines: Bilva Churna 3 g + warm water – 2× daily after meals Kutaj Churna 2 g – 2× daily after meals Triphala Churna 3 g – at bedtime with warm water 2. Panchakarma Therapies: Virechana with avipatikarchurn under supervision Basti (medicated enema with Kshirbala taila / Triphala decoction) yog basti – for 8 days under supervision 3. Diet & Lifestyle: Light, warm, easily digestible food; avoid oily/spicy items Small, frequent meals; stay hydrated Stress management: Pranayama or meditation 4. Follow-up: Reassess stool frequency and inflammation markers after 3 weeks

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
