Is it safe to take Vatvidhwansan ras frequently for period pain? - #38749

Client_7e04ec

My ayurveda doctor recommended me Vatvidhwansan ras for my period pain. Is it okay to take it in every two or three hours. I am having severe pain in my lower belly and back and I also feel my leg getting numb because of the pain.

Taking Vatvidhwansan Ras every two to three hours, especially in cases of severe pain, is not typically considered a standard practice in traditional Ayurveda. While this remedy may provide relief, it’s crucial to adhere to a safe dosage. Overuse may lead to unwanted side effects. In usual practice, Vatvidhwansan Ras, being a potent formulation, is taken 1-2 tablets, once or twice daily, after food with luke warm water. It’s essential to consult your Ayurvedic practitioner for specific dosing tailored to your individual constitution and condition, as your symptoms of numbness may indicate involvement beyond just Vata imbalance.

The severe pain and numbness you’re experiencing suggests heightened Vata dosha. To complement your treatment, consider incorporating warm and moist foods into your diet that pacify Vata, such as cooked grains, stews, and root vegetables. Sesame oil massage or ‘abhyanga’ on the affected areas may also help alleviate pain by enhancing circulation and reducing stiffness. Opt for regular baths with Epsom salts, which can help in relaxation and relief from muscle tension.

Regarding lifestyle, maintaining a regular routine with set sleeping and eating times can help stabilize Vata. Gentle yoga and pranayama focused on calming the mind and body could further relieve pain and discomfort. Practice poses like ‘cat-cow’, child’s pose, and simple seated forward bends to ease lower back tension.

If despite these recommendations, your symptoms persist or worsen, seeking immediate medical attention is wise. Severe menstrual pain with such symptoms could potentially signal conditions requiring conventional medical care, like endometriosis or fibroids. Thus, maintaining a balance between Ayurvedic and modern medical perspectives will ensure your safety and wellbeing.
