I am really worried about my hair fall. Like, I’ve noticed it a lot these past few months. Honestly, it’s been stressing me out, so I thought I’d ask here. I’m a 28-year-old woman, and my hair was always thick and healthy... but now, every time I wash it, I see more and more strands in the drain. It’s kinda shocking. I started trying to pinpoint the why hair fall causes are happening to me. I thought maybe it was stress from work — been working long hours, you know — but then I read online it could be due to diet or even hormonal imbalances. Ugh, now I’m wondering if it’s all connected. A couple of weeks ago, I also started breaking out more, and I’m not sure if that says anything about the whole situation. Plus, I did a blood test and my doctor said my iron levels were alittle low, which made me think: is that a reason too? There’s just so much info out there about why hair fall causes, I feel lost. What do you all think? Is there a natural way in Ayurveda to help this? Like, anything that could really make a difference in my case? I’d really appreciate any insights or tips!

Hair fall can indeed be distressing, and it’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed when you’re bombarded with information from every direction. From an Ayurvedic perspective, hair loss can be related to an imbalance in the doshas—especially Pitta dosha. Stress, dietary imbalances, improper sleep, and hormonal changes can all aggravate Pitta, leading to hair issues. Your mention of work stress and irregularities in your diet or hormones could certainly contribute to this imbalance.

The breakout you mention might also be a sign of increased Pitta in your body. Ayurveda holds that beauty is a reflection of internal balance, particularly the state of the blood and the digestion. With slightly low iron levels, we should focus on nourishing and grounding practices to support your blood production and overall health.

Start by incorporating more Pitta-pacifying foods into your diet. These might include cooling foods like cucumbers, leafy greens, and sweet fruits. Avoid spicy and overly salty foods which can increase Pitta. You should enrich your diet with iron-rich foods such as spinach, lentils, and beets, but ensure you’re consuming them cooked, as raw foods are harder to digest.

Establish a regular hair oil massage routine using coconut oil or a blend of oils with amla or bhringraj, known for their hair-strengthening properties. Massage gently into the scalp 2-3 times a week to stimulate hair growth and calm the mind. Maintain regular sleep patterns to help reduce stress – aim for 7-9 hours of sleep.

Yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) can help reduce stress levels and promote health. Consider incorporating practices like shavasana (corpse pose) or anulom vilom (alternate nostril breathing) into your daily routine.
