for how much time should i keep curd on my hair - #39543
I am dealing with super dry hair lately, and a friend recommended using curd as a natural treatment. Honestly, I’ve never tried anything like this before, so now I’m kind of anxious about it. Like, for how much time should I keep curd on my hair? My friend said just an hour or so, but I want to be sure I’m doing it right. My hair feels rough and—ugh—kinda frizzy. I actually tried a different DIY remedy last week, and it was a mess, like, the whole thing turned into a sticky disaster!!! I ended up washing it out after 20 minutes because I got paranoid about it ruining my hair even more. I can’t afford to lose more hair, ya know? Also, do I need to cover my hair with something while the curd is on there? I read somewhere that can help, but then what if it gets too hot? And like, how do I even know when it's enough time? What if I keep it on too long? Is that even possible with curd? I really want to make this work! Would appreciate any advice on for how much time should I keep curd on my hair without damaging it!!! Thanks!

Applying curd to your hair can be beneficial for dryness and frizz, as it helps to moisturize and nourish your hair due to its natural probiotic and fatty acid content. You should ideally leave the curd on your hair for about 30 to 45 minutes. This amount of time is generally sufficient to allow the nutrients to be absorbed without risking any adverse effects like excessive stickiness or difficulty in washing out.
Start by applying curd evenly onto your hair, focusing more on the ends where dryness and damage are more common. There’s no need to be apprehensive as curd, unlike some other DIY treatments, is unlikely to cause harm if left for this duration. Cover your hair with a shower cap after applying curd; it will help retain the moisture and warmth, aiding better absorption. Avoid this if you’re sensitive to heat or find it uncomfortable.
Curd can sometimes have a cooling effect, so if you’re prone to catching colds easily, do monitor your body’s response. Otherwise, there’s no need to fret over it being too warm under a cap so long as you’re comfortable. Once done, rinse it off thoroughly with lukewarm water, ensuring no residue is left behind, which can weigh hair down. Shampoo your hair if needed but choose a gentle, sulphate-free one to maintain moisture.
Doing this once a week could help improve your hair’s texture significantly, but don’t overdo it as over-moisturizing can also lead to limpness. Keeping it simple and infrequent allows the hair to breathe in between treatments. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes moderation and balance in all practices. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in nutrients supporting hair health, like biotin, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins, also goes a long way.
