how to improve hair volume - #39611
I am really struggling with my hair lately, and honestly, I just feel lost about how to improve hair volume. I've always had thin hair, but for the past few months, it feels like it’s gotten even thinner and lifeless, and I'm freaking out! I tried various shampoos and conditioners claiming to add body, but they haven't worked at all. My hair looks flat and the volume I used to have? Gone! I remember few years ago, I had this lovely bounce to my hair, and now it’s just... limp. I even tried some over-the-counter products but nothing seems to help. I read somewhere that maybe my diet plays a role? I don’t eat super healthy all the time but I do sprinke some good things in there... like nuts and avocados? I thought those were good? Just feeling pretty frustrated. I don’t wanna resort to chemicals or harsh products. I’m thinking maybe there’s some Ayurvedic remedies or herbs that could help here? Can anyone share how to improve hair volume in a more natural way? Any suggestions on foods or oils or treatments from this perspective would be super helpful! Oh, and if anyone’s had this issue and found a way to deal with it? I’m all ears! Thanks!

Hair volume can indeed be tricky. In Ayurveda, hair health is closely linked to our overall body constitution and lifestyle. Vata dosha (which governs movement and dry aspects) often plays a significant role in thinning hair, making it important to balance this dosha. Here are some Ayurvedic suggestions you might find helpful for improving hair volume:
First, let’s address diet. You mentioned nuts and avocados, which are healthy choices. However, adding more seasonal fruits, dark green leafy vegetables, and whole grains to your meals can further nourish your hair. Specifically, sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds are fantastic for hair volume, thanks to their high zinc content. Ayurvedic texts often emphasize the importance of balanced diet for healthy hair.
Hydration is crucial too. Drinking warm water with a squeeze of lemon can stimulate your agni (digestive fire), promoting better absorption of nutrients.
Now to Ayurvedic oils. Massaging your scalp with Brahmi or Bhringraj oil 2-3 times a week can be highly beneficial. Gently warm the oil and apply it on your scalp, letting it soak for at least 30 minutes before washing it off. These oils nourish the scalp and strengthen hair roots.
Herbs like Amla, which is rich in Vitamin C, are also recommended. You can consume Amla juice daily or use it in powder form to make a herbal paste for weekly scalp treatment.
Consider a regular yoga or meditation practice, as stress is known to aggravate hair health. Deep breathing exercises can also help balance your doshas.
Lastly, avoid washing your hair with very hot water, as it may cause further dryness. Use cool or lukewarm water instead. Also, limit the use of hair styling tools which often cause damage and contribute to a loss of volume.
Each person’s situation is unique, so it’s essential to monitor how these adjustments affect your health, and ideally, consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner for personalized advice.
