does clove reduce acidity - #39616
I am feeling kinda lost here. Lately, I've been dealing with really bad acidity issues and it’s been such a pain. Like, I wake up with this burning sensation and it gets worse after I eat, especially spicy stuff or too much coffee. I read somewhere that clove might help with acidity, like, does clove reduce acidity or is that just one of those internet myths? A friend told me she swears by clove water and to be honest, I’m willing to try almost anything at this point. I mean, I've already tried antacids and they help a little, but I really don’t wanna rely on those all the time. Plus, I feel like they mess up my digestion in other ways? It's confusing! I actually made clove tea the other day, but not sure if I’m doing it right... I just boiled a few cloves in water and drank it. Didn’t notice much difference right away though. Does clove reduce acidity for real? And if it does, like how often should I drink it? Should I combine it with something? Thanks for any advice! I'm really hoping for something natural that actually works!

Clove, known as “Lavanga” in Ayurveda, is indeed known for having properties that can help in reducing acidity. It is particularly valued for its ability to stimulate the digestive enzymes, which could help restore balance to your digestive fire or “agni.” In cases of acidity, where the imbalance is often due to excess Pitta dosha, clove can be helpful due to its carminative and anti-inflammatory properties.
When you consume clove, it can help neutralize the excess acid in the stomach and aids in alleviating the burning sensation you’ve been experiencing. To incorporate clove into your routine as a natural remedy for acidity, you can continue making clove tea.
Your current method of boiling a few cloves in water is on the right track, but here’s a more refined process to possibly enhance its efficacy: Take 2-3 whole cloves and crush them lightly. Boil them in one cup of water for 10-15 minutes. Strain the water and drink it warm. For enhanced effect, you might add a small piece of ginger or a pinch of cardamom for their complementary digestive benefits.
It’s important to drink this mixture once daily, preferably 30 minutes after a meal to allow proper absorption. Consistency is key, so use it regularly for a period of 2 to 3 weeks to gauge its effect.
Additionally, consider some lifestyle modifications: avoid consuming coffee, spicy, and oily foods as they can aggravate acidity. Instead, prioritize meals that are pitta-pacific like cooling foods such as leafy greens, cucumber. Eating smaller, more frequent meals and avoiding heavy, late-night meals can support healthy digestion.
If you find no significant improvement or if symptoms persist, it may be beneficial to consult a qualified healthcare professional. While clove and dietary changes can help, sometimes a more comprehensive approach is needed to address underlying imbalances. If you feel discomfort persists or worsens, seeking a professional’s opinion would be the best course of action.
