Severe eczema with frequent scratching can be quite distressing. The priority here is controlling the itch and promoting healing, while reducing inflammation according to Ayurvedic principles. Consider starting with a topical application using coconut oil, known for it’s soothing and moisturizing properties. Apply it gently twice a day on the affected areas. Coconut oil helps maintain moisture, and its natural properties might reduce inflammation.
Turmeric, renowned for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, could also be considered. Make a paste by mixing turmeric powder with a bit of water (or coconut oil). Apply it lightly on the lesions, leaving it for 20-30 minutes before washing off with lukewarm water. This can be done once daily. Be cautious if you have any turmeric allergy.
Aloe vera gel can also be a helpful ally here, providing moisture and reducing inflammation. Fresh aloe vera gel applied directly can be twice daily. Ensure you test a small patch first, as even natural products can sometimes cause reactions.
Dietary modifications are equally essential. Avoid spicy, sour, and fermented foods which can aggravate pitta dosha, a common contributor to eczema. Focus on cooling, hydrating foods, like cucumber and fresh fruits. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated.
There’s a crucial lifestyle factor too. Try to use loose, cotton clothing to avoid further irritation and avoid hot, prolonged baths which tend to dry out the skin. Engage in stress-reducing practices, like yoga or breathing exercises, as stress may worsen eczema.
Given the severity with blood loss, it’s imperative to address any complicating infections or severe bleeding with a qualified physician. Maintaining cleanliness and monitoring the symptoms ensures that you can tackle eczema effectively while aligning with your holistic health journey.
