Doctors' responses

TMJ arthritis, especially involving pain around the ear and head, can indeed be exacerbated by diet and lifestyle factors. In Ayurveda, such conditions may involve an imbalance of Vata and Pitta doshas. Here’s what you can do to help manage the condition:

1. Dietary Adjustments: Incorporate a Vata-Pitta pacifying diet. Avoid non-vegetarian foods as they may increase inflammation and discomfort. Instead, include well-cooked, warm, and easy-to-digest foods like steamed vegetables, soft lentils, and rice. Use spices like turmeric and ginger which have anti-inflammatory properties. They can be added to soups or broths. Limit intake of achidic and spicy foods which can aggravate Pitta.

2. Lifestyle Changes: Maintain a regular routine with set times for eating, sleeping, and activity to pacify Vata. Ensure sufficient hydration throughout the day, sip warm water as it aids digestion. Reduce stress through meditation or gentle yoga, particularly focusing on breath work which calms Vata.

3. Herbal Remedies: Ashwagandha and Guggulu are helpful for joint inflammation. Taking these under the guidance of a qualified practitioner can provide relief. You might prepare a decoction by boiling Guggulu in water and drinking it once a day.

4. External Therapies: Application of warm oil massages can be beneficial. Using Mahanarayan Oil, gently massage the areas surrounding the jaw and temples to relax the muscles. Apply warmth using a hot towel afterward to enhance absorption and relieve tension.

5. Avoid Excessive Chewing: As chewing non-veg food triggers pain, it’s advised to stick to softer foods until the inflammation and pain reduce.

6. Consultation and Follow-Up: While Ayurveda offers helpful remedies, it’s essential to work in conjunction with your healthcare provider. If pain persists or worsens, follow up with your neuro doctor to evaluate treatment efficacy and ensure no additional complications arise.

This regimen intends to reduce pain and inflammation by addressing the root dosha imbalances, enhancing your overall wellbeing naturally.
