In addressing dermatomyositis through Ayurveda, attention is often focused on balancing the affected doshas and supporting the dhatus, or bodily tissues. Muscles and skin, primarily involved in your condition, are related to Kapha and Pitta dosha. Key considerations in your dietary regimen should emphasize anti-inflammatory and nourishing properties to help support muscle and skin health.

First, turmeric is highly beneficial; it possess powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Including turmeric in your daily meals or as a warm turmeric milk (half a teaspoon with warm milk at night) can help soothe inflammation. Cook with it regularly along with black pepper to enhance its absorption.

Ashwagandha is recommended for strengthening muscles and boosting overall energy levels. You might take half a teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder with warm water or milk in the evening to improve muscle strength and recovery.

Ginger is another ingredient worth incorporating, it can aid digestion and circulation. Fresh ginger tea or grated ginger in meals helps maintain digestive fire, supporting your body’s ability to process nutrients.

Dietary fats such as ghee can also be beneficial. Ghee, consumed in moderation, helps lubricate the joints and enhances absorbtion of fat-soluble vitamins. Try adding a small spoon of ghee to your meals.

Leafy greens – spinach, kale, or amaranth – provide essential vitamins and minerals. Make sure to cook them well to aid digestion and balance Vata and Pitta dosha, often exacerbated in muscular conditions.

Amla or Indian Gooseberry is excellent for its high Vitamin C content, which is essential for skin health. You can consume amla juice or amla powder mixed with water, once a day.

Maintaining a light diet, rich in fresh vegetables, grains like quinoa, or rice, will help balance doshas without overburdening your digestive system. Adequate hydration is also key; sip warm water throughout the day, which can assist in digestion and detoxification process.

Remember to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before making any significant dietary changes especially due to the complexity of dermatomyositis and any current medications you might be taking.
