Doctors' responses

Puffy under-eye bags can certainly be an annoying issue and, based on Ayurvedic principles, may relate to imbalances in your doshas and lifestyle factors. Given your sensitivity to cold, and how the puffiness worsens in winter, this might suggest a Vata imbalance — as Vata is aggravated by cold and dry conditions. Now, supplements like triphala could help with excess dosha and detoxifying the body. Take half a teaspoon with warm water before bed, it aids in improving digestion (agni) and reducing water retention, potentially addressing some root causes of puffiness.

Your chronic leg pain that eases with warmth and massage confirms Vata’s involvement. External application of warm oil, such as sesame oil, can bring balance. Gently massage your legs and around the eyes with warm oil daily - this enhances circulation and brings relief both to leg pain and eye swelling. Make sure to wash the oil off with lukewarm water to not let any occlusion happen.

Hydration matters since drinking warm water throughout the day can support your body in flushing out toxins and promoting balance. Cold drinks might aggravate your symptoms, so you’ve got to keep them to a minimum. A diet rich in warm, cooked foods and easy-to-digest meals is crucial. Soups, stews, and slightly spiced dishes can aid in maintaining your internal warmth.

Regular practices of stress-relieving activities like yoga and pranayama can restore balance to your Vata. Finally, consider getting more sleep and elevating your head slightly while sleeping to help stagnation from building up under your eyes. If symptoms persist, consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner can provide you more individualized balance.

Hello, dear doctor, thank you very much for answer.

These are very basic recommendations. I do everything except taking triphala (I take fresh amla with cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, honey and cardamom in the morning) and if I feel low agni, I take ginger or mix and drink trikatu. I also do mild virechana occasionally, I completed Panchakarma in India in March. And when I have a lot of ama, I drink Panchakola Phanta for 3 days.

A few days ago I started doing facial massages with a brush (something like a gentle facial udwarthana based on mukha abhyanga).

Thank you for reading.
