can we eat curd in sore throat - #44852
I am really struggling with this sore throat that's just been hanging around for a week now. It hurts a lot, and I notice it gets worse when I swallow anything. I’ve tried some home remedies, like hot tea with honey, but honestly, it doesn’t feel like it’s helping much. Yesterday, someone mentioned that curd could be soothing and beneficial for a sore throat. But, like, can we eat curd in sore throat? I thought dairy can sometimes cause more mucus, or am I mixing that up? I’ve always loved curd and have it almost daily. My mom used to say it’s good for digestion and all, but now I’m kinda second-guessing if it might make my throat feel worse instead! Also, what do you guys recommend eating or drinking during this time? I want to feel better sooo bad, but I’m kinda nervous about trying anything new. Can we eat curd in sore throat? I’m stuck in this loop of wanting to heal but not making things worse! Would really appreciate any advice 🤷♂️!

In Ayurveda, curd is considered to be a complex food, and its effects can vary depending on an individual’s constitution, or prakriti. It has a tendency to increase kapha dosha, which could potentially aggravate mucus production — something you want to avoid during a sore throat. However, at the same time, curd can be soothing due to its cooling properties. This creates a bit of a paradox when it comes to its use in a sore throat situation like yours.
If your sore throat is accompanied by a feeling of congestion or excessive mucus, it might be wise to avoid curd temporarily. Instead, focus on foods and beverages that balance kapha and soothe your throat without contributing to mucus build-up. Warm water with a pinch of turmeric and honey can be calming and therapeutic. Ginger tea with a hint of lemon can also be beneficial as both ginger and lemon can help with inflammation and boosting immunity.
Soups with warming spices such as cumin, black pepper, and a bit of garlic can help clear the throat and provide comfort. Also, considering warm, cooked food rather than cold or raw items might suit you better at the moment. While not traditionally recommended, some find relief with herbal teas, like tulsi or chamomile, which can provide a gentle soothing effect.
If you still wish to consume curd, try having it at room temperature and diluted with warm water to make it more digestible and less kapha-aggravating. Add a pinch of black pepper or ginger for better digestion and to combat mucus. However, it may be best to monitor how your body reacts to it.
Above all, ensure you listen to your body. If there’s significant discomfort or if your sore throat persists or worsens, it’s important to seek guidance from a healthcare professional – Ayurveda or otherwise. Please prioritize looking for any alarming signals as infections may require timely attention to avoid complicating.
