Doctors' responses
Persistent acne and skin sensitivity can often be linked to imbalances in the body, particularly with the doshas. Given your symptoms - the reactivity of your skin, and prolonged healing of marks - it could suggest an imbalance in Pitta and Vata doshas. Pitta, when aggravated, can lead to inflammatory and pus-filled acne, while Vata can contribute to dry skin conditions.
Dietary modifications hold significant importance. Try to reduce the intake of spicy, oily, and fried foods as these can aggravate Pitta. Instead, include cooling and hydrating foods like cucumber, cantaloupe, and mint in your meals. Staying hydrated by drinking adequate water throughout the day also helps regulate Pitta. Consider drinking coconut water — it’s not only refreshing but balances Pitta.
For your skincare routine, opt for gentle, natural products. Use a mild, non-comedogenic cleanser twice daily to remove excess oil and impurities without strippin the skin of its natural moisture. Avoid harsh scrubs or products with alcohol since these can exacerbate Vata imbalance by over-drying the skin.
Applying a simple paste of neem and turmeric can help. Mix a small amount of neem powder with turmeric and water, apply on affected areas, leave it for about 15 minutes, and then wash off. Neem is known for its antibacterial properties, while turmeric helps with inflammation. Be cautious with turmeric to avoid staining.
Practicing stress management is key, as stress can trigger hormonal changes that worsen acne. Engage in calming activities like yoga or pranayama (breathing exercises) to maintain balance in your mind and body. These practices help in calming the Vata dosha.
If symptoms persist or worsen, it’s critical to consult with a healthcare practitioner familiar with both conventional and Ayurvedic medicine to obtain a comprehensive assessment. Your situation might require a tailored treatment plan considering your specific constitution and imbalance.
