I have tinnitus and vertigo. It drives me crazy at times the noises go from humming sounds to swooshing and vibrating sounds down the ear canal. I got this after taking the covid vaccine. I'm against taking medication that the doctor prescribes. I look for natural alternatives. Tinnitus and vertigo, especially after vaccination, may be linked to Vata imbalance in Ayurveda. First, focus on pacifying Vata, which often contributes to neurological symptoms. Start with a nourishing diet; consider incorporating warm, cooked foods like stews, soups, and porridges. Use spices such as ginger, cumin, and cardamom to support digestion and balance Vata. Avoid raw and cold foods which might aggravate the condition.
Practising Nasya, a therapy involving nasal oil application, can be beneficial. Use 2-3 drops of warm Anu taila or sesame oil in each nostril daily, preferably in the morning or before sleep. This can help calm the nervous system and manage vertigo. Avoid sudden movements, especially head turns, to prevent triggering vertigo episodes.
For your tinnitus, try Shitali Pranayama to cool and calm the mind. Sit comfortably and inhale slowly through a rolled tongue and exhale through the nose. Doing this for a few minutes twice a day can promote stability within the inner ear.
Moreover, incorporate Brahmi or Gotu Kola in your regimen, either as a tea or a supplement, as they can aid in soothing the mind and reducing stress, which might exacerbate your symptoms. Before taking any supplements, consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure they suit your body type.
Hydration is essential; drink warm herbal teas like ginger or chamomile, which can help balance Vata and aid digestion. A gentle Abhyanga—self-massage with warm sesame oil—applied from head to toe before a warm bath can provide grounding for Vata. Avoid screens and bright lights before bed to ensure quality sleep, as rest will aid your body’s healing process.
If symptoms persist or worsen, consider consulting with a healthcare professional familiar with both Western and Ayurvedic practices to ensure you’re covering all bases safely. Take precautions as balance can still be an issue; ensure your living space is safe to avoid falls during dizzy spells.
Your symptoms of tinnitus and vertigo, especially after vaccination, may be linked to an imbalance in the vata dosha, which governs movement and the nervous system in Ayurvedic understanding. Addressing vata through diet and lifestyle adjustments can be beneficial. Drink warm herbal teas like ginger or tulsi to soothe the nervous system. Regularly perform a simple nasal oil application (nasya) using a few drops of warm sesame oil in each nostril. This helps stabilize vata and reduce head-related disturbances.
Eating warm, cooked meals with spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric can balance vata and support better digestion. Also, avoid excessive consumption of dry, cold, or raw foods.
External abhyanga is very helpful too—massage your body with warm sesame oil followed by a warm bath. This nourishes the body, supports the nervous system, and grounds vata.
For vertigo specifically, try lying on your back with your head slightly elevated during rest to balance inner ear pressure, which may alleviate symptoms. Practice slow, controlled head movements, avoiding sudden changes that may trigger dizzy spells. Simples neck exercises and pranayama like Nadi Shodhana can keep energy channels open and reduce symptoms over time.
In the case of persistent or worsening symptoms, consulting with a healthcare professional to exclude or address any underlying conditions would be wise. Some conditions may require more immediate or specific intervention, and Ayurveda can work alongside to promote long-term balance.
